Something tells me these yahoos aren't going to put up much resistance in Afghanistan after a while, and that we'll see many of them surrender. They know what's in store for them, and it won't be pretty.

What scares me is the possibility they may turn their anger towards the civilians.

i think its doubtful they will surrender ... the people who were on the planes were quite happy to die for their cause what makes you think these people wont be

i think bush is being very smart at the moment by having the miltary build up but mainly fighting the war diplomatically at the moment and relying on special forces

Those aren't the same people. You have to wonder how many Taliban are conscripts.

If they have 300,000 troops, I'm an astronaut.

Really? Can you fly me to jupiter? The people there must be wanting to have my sister in law back soon. It would be nice if I could just deliver her. ;)

well if they are calling it a holy war and a jihad its more likely they will fight a lot longer and tougher then the iraq's did ... if americans attacked on a straight ground assult against that sort of number or half even when they were defending i presume that a lot of americans would die :(

interesting article

on their military style and the challenge of the terrain. remember, the Russians thought similar to the way we do right now and they spent ten years trying to defeat them .. with heavy losses .. and eventually gave up.

but, this is 2001 .. and we have a far different goal with a huge portion of the world backing our cause.

If there is 300,000 of them at the border, this will make a strike from the air a lot easier.

afghanistan is also infamous for being the most heavyly mined place on the planet by the russians ... i dont think air strike would be that easy either because russians are bound to have tried that too ... the country is big and they arent going to be standing in open fields ... afghanistan has a complex series of caves that people can hide in as well ... im not sure how wide spread these are but ironically the CIA helped the taliban build them

We did not train the Taliban sexy girl. We trained all the rebel forces in afganistan. That includes the people of the northern alliance. You gotta understand American foreign policy during the cold war.

The number 1 thing you had to do in order to be our friend was to be antisoviet/anticommunist. As long as you did that we were going to help you pretty much no matter what. Everything else was secondary to that. Thats why we supported South Korea and Tawain even though they were dictatorships. They were antisoviet/anticomunist and had a capitalistic system.

We helped the Afgans because they were fighting the soviets. The soviets needed a all year port and they were gonna take Afanistan and part of Pakistan to get it. They never did because the Afgani people held one hell of a will to fight and the CIA funneled them over a billion dollars.

Hey, don't underestimate them. Those 13 pilots are among the most highly trained in the world.

Yeah, but when you're flying propellor driven bi-planes even Chuck Yeager wouldn't be intimidating......

They have MIG-21's. Granted those were obsolete about the time of Vietnam and our F-4's were way ahead of them in every way. Well, ok the F-4 does not have an internal gun but that is the only thing it does not beat the MIG-21 in.
