So I am in the service and just heard this time for the first time today. Apparently they are like groupies, but instead of chasing rock stars, the chase military men in uniform.

Just wondering:

1. If this is a real thing?

2. If it is real how many so called "tag chasers" are out there?

Tag chaser, Cammie Chaser, Tricare holder wannabe, etc., are all the same (different than Barracks Bunnies/Rats) and sadly it's very much a real thing, and I'll damn guarantee you that if there are any on Lit who are "tag chasers" they'll never admit they are one...esp after I chew this subject up!

The old definitions were on the mild side...like being attracted to someone ONLY because they are in the military; or someone looking to marry someone in the military; or someone that collected dog tags after having sex w/ military members....those definitions are outdated.

Tag chasers piss me the hell off  and I'm not even in the military. I despise tag chasers, they disgust me! They marry military men because they want the benefits, they want money; they'll prey on any man in uniform whether the guy is wearing a ring on his finger or not. When they do marry, they are known to cheat and it's usually w/ another man in uniform.

Wanna know why the military divorce rates are so high...tag chasers. Usually a military guy rolls w/ the concept of "I want someone who'll be waiting at home for me when I get back" and that's understandable but the disgusting truth is that if he ends up marrying a tag chaser she'll cheat on him b/c she can't cope w/ the loneliness.

If by some luck she doesn't cheat and the marriage lasts beyond 2-3 years, it becomes even more of a precarious situation b/c by then the couple usually has a child or two, and unless they've got a good marriage he has to deal w/ her bitching, whining and moaning about how "hard" military life is (when truthfully she doesn't have a fucking clue b/c she doesn't have his job).

The military member knows that if he divorces her he'll have to pay alimony & child support. In the interim, he's focused on his job and possibly next deployment, and has to think "will I be served divorce papers while deployed; will she cheat on me (if she hasn't already); will I make it home"

It fucking infuriates me b/c I've known SO many girls who will marry a military member b/c she sees the allure of his "benefits" - and I'm NOT talking about DeCA or BX/PX priviliges, Tricare etc., In a nutshell a Tag Chaser is attracted to the thousands of dollars she could receive if she marries a military guy and he dies in battle. Nice, huh? (sarcasm)

Granted I am NOT saying that every person who dates OR is married to a military member is a tag chaser, but for the most part tag chasers are ruthless heartless bitches that are fucked up and often if a military guy isn't careful he'll wind up married to one.

Best/easiest way to determine if someone wants to be in a relationship b/c they're a tag chaser...tell them you're getting out of the military, see how they react. If the tag chaser is pushing marriage - tell them you want to wait to discuss marriage until you're out of the military b/c you couldn't bare the thought of the possibility they could end up a military widow.

^^^ Usually will help a military member determine if he's dating a tag chaser ;)

I was just curious as I had never heard the term before. I did not know any of the in depth stuff you mentioned.

Thought it was just an attraction thing

I'm a USMC brat, I'm a USAF wife - if it helps you out, then I don't mind sharing what I know. You know the truly crazy part about tag chasers -they think they know all about military benefits, and are often ill informed.

They are the ones that think the more kids you have, the higher pay your husband will receive (WTF?! Dumbasses) they like "wearing rank" that they didn't earn, and will toss around their AD spouses rank as tho it will get them somewhere.

I'll never forget talking to a tag chaser she had made a comment along the lines of "Civilian boys bore me"- and I had overheard her comment she was only getting married for the Health benefits & his pay :)mad: ) She was engaged and wanted to know how quickly benefits would kick in for her. I decided to fuck w/ her mind and told her they wouldn't that she wouldn't be eligible for any benefits (of course that wasn't entirely true - she would have to be enrolled in DEERs and all that good stuff)...she ended up breaking off the engagement

Fortunately the guy didn't see it as a tragic loss - more like a "WTF was I thinking" lol :D

Well you've got different levels of tag chasers...but don't be fooled into thinking it's just that they want to have sex w/ a military guy.

Most tag chasers are at a place in life where they are trapped in a dead end job; the often have debt; they might have a child...but most of them will date a military member b/c they want to get married (for the "benefits") they view being married to a military member as a way to improve their own life circumstances. It's a fucked up way of thinking for sure.

Blimey SD! Don't hold back...say what you think!:D

We have it here too especially in garrison towns. I suppose sometimes it's a girls only way out of the places, they are often grim run down places.

There's a legend that the girls in Aldershot have a red devil tattoo when they "bag" a para...I don't know if it's true, you'd probably have to ask GA about that one

LoL - I tend to always say what I think (sometimes more than I should...which I'm trying to work on  ) Hmm that legend sounds intriguing -the question I would have were it true, would be is it one tattoo per "bag" or just one tattoo regardless of how many :p

Hmmm never heard of this before, strange but interesting and fucked up.

True enough - but I wouldn't say it's reserved solely for those who are military (tho it tends to be more prominant) I'm thinking if we had some Firefighters or LEOs weigh in on the subject I would say they have had their share of "badge chasers" as well.

One per bag-it was like a sport at one point I'm told...:D
