I am a Single White Writer looking for a dedicated editor for a modern day fantasy story I am working on. The first chapter is already posted here:

https://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=3308734&page=submissions

With a rating currently at 4.76 with 280+ votes. My story is extremely character driven, and to this point involves few magic/supernatural aspects. It currently centers on a monogamous straight relationship though it will eventually explore polygamous topics.

The story is currently in present tense but after getting the same complaint about it I am going to switch it to past tense so that I can reach the widest audience. It's kind of frustrating that people are so hung up on it, but I hope that in past tense I will reach a wider audience and my already high ratings will be even higher since I know I have received many 1-4 ratings as a result of that single element.

As far as what I am looking for, I am really hoping to get the normal assistance with word confusion (feint -vs- faint for example, where you know which one you mean but you use the wrong one and cant see it), grammar and punctuation of course, and I welcome feedback on style and content changes as well.

The voice of the characters is important to me so I want a editor who is not afraid to challenge me about a character or plot point.

Ideally we would work through Google Drive, where I can share a copy with you and the editing can happen there. Gives much more tools for more instantaneous exploration of ideas and issues.

Thanks for the consideration and I look forward to working with someone in the future.

Present tense fiction is hard to read and jarring for most readers. I went to your link, but the present tense was enough to shut me down. I think it's great you're willing to change the verb tense.

Well, I just spent about 3 hours re-writing half of chapter 1, but I am sure I will fill much better about this decision once I see the ratings start to climb up again. :D

4.75 with 280+ votes is still damn good I think, especially when you consider it's in spite of the story being in present tense.

Are you an editor interested in reviewing it once its all switched over to simple past tense?

I may be available to give you feedback, depending on the story and word count. I work full time so my VE time is limited.

Yeah, I get that. The first chapter is probably going to be on the longer side, but I am aiming to keep all of my chapters between 4-5 pages on the site. Ch1 is 17,100 words, I will leave the decision up to you whether you think you will have the time to edit, or the inclination.

Hello all,

I am actually working with LadyVer now, and don't think I will need any more editors.

Thanks.
