switching off anon feedback

I am curious about the experience of authors after switching off the acceptance of anonymous feedback email.

Did doing that decrease or increase the amount of feedback?

Do readers put in a bogus email address and send anon feedback anyway?

I accept anonymous feedback, because not everyone is willing to send it otherwise. I understand that for some, visiting a porn site can threaten their job or family life. So, I want to make it as easy as possible for people to write me. If I get some funky criticism once in a while, so be it. I'd rather get that than wonder how much feedback I missed because I turned off the anon. feature.

I'd keep it on

I think turning off AF would decrease the amount of feedback you get. In fact, when I became a member here, I opted to accept *only* AF. When using a site like this, I want to keep my e-mail address private because I get enough spam as it is, & revealing my addy would just invite more--or worse, invite cyberstalkers. Besides, as I have discovered recently, everyone's author profile now links their username to a general AF form. Both general & specific-story AF forms now require the giver of the feedback to type their e-mail address. This both protects the author's anonymity & makes it more difficult for people to use feedback forms for flaming & get away with it.

I was a writer here pre-anon feedback.

My amount of feedback increased explosively with it.

The only reasons to turn it off is if you don't find yourself able to handle the negative stuff that comes through or if you don't actually care what people think.

Sometimes people are moved enough to send feedback. Most of the time they're not even interested in voting. If I want feedback I let them have all avenues available.

I'm confused. Doesn't annon feedback mean you aren't required to include your email address?

anon feedback

That's what I thought it meant too, DVS. Ray's thread asks the question. It looks like every sender now has to include an email addy in order to send. Maybe a recent change?

I have my email set to private, but I have accept anonymous feedback set to ON.

Recently, I noticed ALL feedback has stopped. I didn't get that much anonymous feedback, but maybe this recent addition (if it is recent site addition) is the reason.

Personally, I would be concerned where my email address is going, if I wanted to respond to a story. Not because I am not wanting a response from the author, but because I am not wanting some form of Spam.

I know, if I wanted to, I could fake an address in this box. But, at the end of the story, it does say Send instant anonymous feedback to the author.

They do that to me all the time, that's why i switched off my feedback option, it just wasnt worth it.

I believe this is correct and current as of 5/26.

There is a bug with the Anon setting/see Ray Darios' thread : Laurel, Is there a problem with Annonymous Feedback? .

If you allow anon, the system is still requiring something in the addr field, but it will accept a bogus addr.

If you set the No Anon switch, the system will only accept an Addr that belongs to a registered user.

I have always allowed Anon. I've gotten some weird stuff, which I still found enlightening. I've gotten some wonderful anon comments.

Oh yeah, in a thread I started called Stupid Human Tricks, I'm asking for "interesting" feedback from anyone who'd care to share. Funny, sick, touching, opened-my-eyes, etc.
