"She’s referring to hen, the new Swedish gender-neutral pronoun introduced at two Stockholm nurseries in 2012. Today hen is frequently used by Swedish children and adults alike. Now other European countries are joining the gender-*neutrality trend."
Hmm… not sure that using the word ‘hen’ in Swedish as a gender neutral pronoun for kids is actually going to help anyone and it may well provoke a conservative backlash. Language isn’t going to solve the problem because gender exists and to deny it is nonsense.
What is important is that children (and adults) who do not conform to the gender binary are not stigmatized. I’ve got no problem with boys adopting traditionally male activities, but the children themselves should be the ones to adopt it, not parents - or worse still, authorities trying to engineer a genderless nirvana.
Sweden has a long and murky history of social engineering, with a nanny state making bad judgements. Nice try Sweden but this is wrong.
Looking forward to comments
