Well, well well- I finished out the year with 17 points on the Survivor Contest.

I posted 3 stories this year (as snp) --3! and 6 poems.

Was there anybody else who entered who did worse than that?

ps- I blame all of you at the AH. If I hadn't been here- I *might* have been writing!

Ok- or anybody esle who did poorly who might want to comiserate.

(is that even the right word?)

Feel free to post, even if you came really close, but not close enough.

Or if you just want to comment.

should I have posted a poll?

I ended up completely pulling out of the contest because of unfair ruling changes smack dab in the middle of the contest. Not to mention the unholy amount of points some of the other contestants had. This years contest was definitely more about quantity than anything else.

The amount of points this year compared to last year is astronomical.

I ended up deleting most of the stories I wrote for the contest because they were way below my usual standard.

I didn't even pay attention, or bother to check immunities. What were the rule changes?

I didn't even realize till tonight that I'd only posted 3 stories all year! (might be a little better if I had been able to count smartnsassy, amy sweet, matchmadeinheaven and whatever other odd handles I've forgotten...

Will anyone be owning up to being a Survivor Contest "Looser"?

Is that like a fluffer, only more extreme?

Sorry, Sweet, couldn't resist. :D :rose:

I guess I won't be. It doesn't sound at all interesting. Nearly every criterion is beyond your control. Might as well roll a die.

Isn't this competition thing rather childish?

Survivor has always been more about quantity than anything else. That's the point of the whole thing.

But still, I don't agree with you... I think it was jthserra who won this year, and I haven't read a single low-quality story, poem, or even forum post by him. In my opinion, it was definitely the highest-quality winner in the three years I've been around.

You're definitely entitled to disagree with me, and I never specifically said he lacked in quality...

However, if you have managed to read all of his submissions, that is quite a feat considering how many of them there are. I know one of the ways he managed such a high score and it was a very smart strategic move on his part. I know lots of the participants had to wonder if the man ever slept the way he cranked out submission after submission.

I've read a few of his stories, and yes, for the most part, they are well written, though you can tell with some of them that they needed another look over for typos, but then again, we all have that problem at some point or another in our stories.

I say this though... his final score is somewhere around 500 more points (give or take a few) than the score of last year's winner. If the trend continues, I will bet that the Survivor Contest will gradually die because very few will feel up to the challenge of accumulating that many points.

So jthserra is a single, real person?

I had begun to doubt it. Every time I go into the 'New' stories it seems that he (she?) has at least three stories up.

I find it hard to believe a single person can maintain such a high output. And maintain quality. With out the use of serious drugs.

So, the problem is that jthserra is so much better than all others, following the rules and objectives of the contest, that no one will want to compete?

Oh good grief Lauren, lighten up. Geez. I rarely ever post anymore and when I do, either no one notices, or I get sarcastic remarks.

Honestly, if you were a contestant and looked at the amazing amount of submissions he had and the fact that he finished with a score of 730 when the year before's winner had less than 250 (if memory serves correctly), wouldn't you be a bit intimidated and think there's no way in hell you could do the same??

It's just something to think about.

Like I said in an earlier post, he used a very smart strategic move and it worked very well to his advantage.
