Julia woke up before the sun lit the sky and dressed herself in her traveling clothing. She pulled on her slacks, put on her blouse with the bellowing sleeves and tied her daggers in their shief on her arms under the sleeves. She dug around in some bed rolls until she found what she was looking for. She pulled out O'Shien's two 6 shooters and his holster and buckled it around her waist, it was a little loose, she would ask Clayton to make another hole. She tied the holster strings to her legs and then looked at her beloved. She hadn't told him what she planned to do. She needed practice with O'Shien's weapons and she was not sure how Clayton would take that. She crouched beside him and looked at his wonderful, strong, handsome face. They had two wonderful, fun, love and sharing weeks but now it was time to get down to business. She wanted to get to the West and go forward with their plans.
She walked out of the tent and down to the lake where Clayton and her had first made love and still went for peace and quiet. She carried a sack of empty cans for practice and extra ammunition if she needed it. She arranged the cans and walked away from them. She first practiced drawing them, the weight of course was a lot heavier but after a while she found she could draw them quite quickly.
She turned to the cans and drew out the 6 shooters and shot at two cans. She missed one but hit the other. She smiled at least she hit one she thought. After several tries she began hitting her marks. She moved back from them some more as she had other things to practice. She walked and then turned quickly and hit the dirt and shot from the ground. She was pleased, she had managed to hit both targets again. She was more then sure she could protect herself an Clayton from any problems as they cross the South going to the West.
As she turned she saw Clayton standing by the trees watching her. She suddenly felt a little ashamed that she didn't tell him what her plans were to do this morning. She walked over to him and smiled and kissed him on the lips.
"So how about we leave for my plantation tomorrow, Clayton"
She looked into his eyes wondering if he was mad at her, he was not showing any emotion and that worried her.
OOC: Clayton, I hope you dont mind me hurrying the story line along but I thought we should get going to the plantation and then to the west. Below you will see Julia in her fighting clothing, lol, sometimes its good to have a visual.

OOC: Karen, yeah, no problem with speeding things up a bit. Andyg.
As he awoke, Clayton recalled the last couple of weeks as a whirlwind:
Their first night of love-making in her tent had certainly been a lot more comfortable than on the river bank of their first joining and they had both seemed to enjoy each other's company more and more as the days had grown into weeks.
As time had gone on, he found her even more beautiful than ever...Julia's kind attitude and gentle nature had further grown on him and their great feelings for each other were mutual.
For a while, they had been completely lost in each other and seemed to have forgotten about their ideas and their plans for the future...even though neither of them really wanted the tranquility to end, they both knew that the time would soon come for them to move on to her family's plantation.
From chance glances, Clayton had knew that Julia had some guns and ammunition as well as a couple of knives, but he didn't know a whole lot about weapons, so he'd left it to her to bring up the subject.
That morning, Clayton had awoken with a start to the sound of gunfire: Looking wildly around the tent and camp, he saw no sign of Julia and -fearing the worst- he ran towards the sound of the noise, not knowing what he would find.
He entered the clearing by 'their' riverbank to find that Julia was shooting at cans for targets.
It was certainly an unfamiliar sight and (if he was honest with himself) the sight and sound of the guns DID unnerve him a little.
Still a little asleep and trying to take it all in, Clayton's mins naturally turned to the familiar sight of Julia in her travelling clothes. Although he'd not really expected to find her armed, his nerves were very easily dispelled as he took in the sight of her; he found that her blouse and slacks accentuated her gorgeous body.
Clayton was dumbfounded for as a second as she walked over to him, kissed him on the lips and she asked him about leaving for her plantation tomorrow.
He awoke out of his trance and he looked down into her gorgeous eyes and gave her his widest smile, speaking reassuringly to her and with growing confidence in his voice:
"Yeah, that sounds real good, Julia. You're right, we really should be getting going. I...I never expected to see you with guns, but the world IS a dangerous place and we DO need to protect ourselves, so I think there's no time like the present to get a bit of practice."
Full of admiration for her very good skills, Clayton ruffled his fingers playfully through Julia's lovely hair and he jokingly added: "Hey, you look really nice in those clothes, Julia and you're really good at shooting...a real-life Annie Oakley."
Seeing her wonderful smile in response to his words and actions of support, he said:
"Hopefully, we won't NEED to shoot, but I think that it would be VERY wise of both of us to know how to defend ourselves...but it looked like you don't need any more training."
"I've heard that unarmed people are easy pickings for bandits out in the West. Once I met a couple of folks from out West and they said that Texas was real dangerous if'n you don't know one end of a gun from the other."
Clayton found that Julia's presence had taken away all of his nervousness around the guns and -after a brief hug where he felt her body melt into his- he said: "With you around, I'm not afraid about guns and weapons anymore; do you think you would be able to teach me how to shoot, Julia?"
Rather than sounding afraid, his voice now sounded quite confident and he hoped that she would agree.
