So my parents came down to visit us the other day. We were having a good time, some shopping at the local Butcher Shop, (German) and then a lot of time at a beach south of us.

We had returned home when my father decided he just needed a couple of things from a store down here. Because they needed the gas in their car for their return trip I tossed him my car keys. (He's one of the few people other than my wife and I who is allowed to drive our car.) He took off with my wife. (I was doing some work for him, copying some music from one of our disks so my wife went with him to show him the way there.)

I had finished my little job when my mother decided she wanted a couple of things to go with our dinner. We decided to head down to the local grocery store when she realised my father had their car keys in his pocket. We were stuck as my car was on the road with my father. The only vehicle left usable was the bike. I told my mother this and she just looked thoughtful for a minute or two then asked if I had a heavy coat that would fit her. Thinking about it for a minute I went into the back room and grabbed my leathers. These are a bit large on me so I can wear warm clothes under them. I told her to try it on and to her surprise it fit. I grabbed some helmets and we went out to the bike.

Now my mother rode on the back of my fathers bike way back when so I didn't have to go over the whole safety briefing. Instead I pulled on my vest and helmet, fired up the bike and walked it out of the parking area. I braced my feet and waited as she climbed into the saddle and off we went to the store.

The looks we received as we walked through the store were priceless. Here I was in my jeans, boots, T-Shirt and leather vest with my long hair and carrying my helmet. Then here's my mother in her heavy pants and shoes wearing my leathers and carrying her helmet. (My mother is 70+ by the way.) More than a couple of people stopped to do a double take. Well we picked up what we needed and after packing it into the cargo box got the bike started and headed for home.

As we pulled into the park we were behind my car. We waited as my father pulled into the parking area then moved in and parked the bike. The look on my father's and wife's faces as they watched my mother climb off the bike and pull off her helmet were great. They were completely blown away.

Now my father is talking about getting himself a bike once again. That could lead to some fun.

What really makes me smile about this more than anything is the continuing relationship you have with your parents. Good times!

Awesome!
It's nice to hear about a good relationship with parents. Also nice to know that your parents aren't so set in their ways to not have an open mind. :)

Well my parents and I get along just fine. I always seemed to get along with my mother but my father and I didn't get along so well when I lived at home. (Too much alike I suppose.)

Now that I'm out of the house and living on my own my father and I get along just fine. The more hard time my wife and I go through the better my father and I get along. (Maybe because I deal with the same things he dealt with without whining or asking for help.)

Oh and as far as my parents being stuck in a rut? That's not going to happen.
