I had gall bladder surgery 16 days ago. 4 holes on my stomach. The stiches are
the ones that should dissapear. I can feel 5 that are sharp.
Anyone else had them? How long took it for the wounds to heal completely?

It took about a month. One is still there.

I had a vasectomy and the stiches were also sharp. They were constantly stabbing my surrounding ballsack and penis, making it very uncomfortable to move around. I finally couldn't wait any longer for them to dissolve and pulled them out myself. I went slow to make sure the incision was healed up though.

I've had a few surgeries with those sort of stitches.....they took somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks to dissolve.

I think it depends on the stitch. Some dissolve quickly, and can be gone in as soon as a few weeks, but may take longer. Some of the stronger ones may take months to go (usually used in deeper tissues)...

FYI, it will take some time to heal up. Scars can be very visible for a long time. You should be able help that my massaging the scars. Do a little research on line about scar massage (I learned about it from a physical therapist at one very large hospital)

Good luck. Now enjoy some good greasy food!

Oh, yeah did they violate your belly button?

I can understand that you wanted them gone quickly.

Thanks, I eat more fat food now. I have missed that. And chocolate.
They cut a few cent. above the belly button. I'll try and post a pic.

It's not a good pic but there are 4 scars there.

I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago but rather than use stitches, they used staples on my wounds. They left really bad scars. I've found that massaging Bio-Oil into them has helped a lot. Oh, and to top it all off, I was allergic to the dressings they put over the staples! :-(

3 weeks..

After 3 weeks, the skin should be close to healed. Make an appt with the urologist (or whoever did the surgery) and he/she may be able to remove the sutures for you. Sometimes they can become embedded, making it tricky to do on your own. Until then, good luck!

I'm sorry. I thought staples was something that they used a long time ago.

Thanks, I think I'll wait and see. I can hardly see one and it's the one that is irritating the most.

I have stitches that should dissapear by themselves. I don't know what they are called. I'm from Finland...

Absorbable sutures?

If it's any consolation, when I had a surgery, the surgeons used absorbable and it took between four and six weeks for them to dissolve. The doctors told me it was completely normal.

Unless it's really bothering you, it's infected, or it's taking much too long, I wouldn't worry about it. However, it's always a good idea to ask your doc.

Good luck. :rose:

I think it's the right word. I read on the net that it could take 6 weeks.
I just wanted to hear what the Lit people had to say about it.
I love Lit.
Thanks. :rose:
