Just read in a thread about Raw that his employer blocked his access to Lit....maybe other sites too I dont know.

How many of you spend time here posting while you are being paid to work for an employer.

I think it's bogus, and I dont blame any employer for blocking certain net access when employees are spending time fooling around when they are being paid to be productive, and get work accomplished.

How do you feel about it.

I created a poll with limited options basically yes I post while working or no I dont.

Im sure I could have created a lengthier poll with more options, but didnt want to confuse the basic issue.

I get paid to have a 45 minute lunch break as well as a 20 minute coffee break, which I never take. If you add up the posts that I do during the day...they equal out to a whole lot less than an hour...especially when I am able to type at over 60wpm.

You forgot the "Yes I post while working sometimes but since my name is on the checks then no worries" option.

yep. it helps the day pass....... in between cussing out New Jersey sub contractors and the likes :)

heh....since I'm the boss, it'll be ok.

I don't think I'll fire me over it. ;)

BUT AS FOR THE REST OF YOU......KEEP IN MIND.....

....you never know which Litster could be your boss posting in the thread you just started....
heh

:D

Seems like that's between people and their employers. Personally, as long as people get their work done I wouldn't care less where they frequented online.

Pretty much the same opinion given on the dozen or so other threads on this topic.

Yeah thats cool if you are the one who signs the checks, but what if you are the one who signs the checks, and you have employees fooling around on the web, instead of making you money, and if they do make you money, couldn't they then be more efficient and make you, or save you money by being more productive?

So....if you paid me 50,000 dollars a year, and I could get my work done in four hours per day...you wiouldnt mind if I went home after working 20 hours per week?

~Or~

Would you prefer that I stay, and possibly make you more money, or overproduce.

Depends on how the employee is paid. If they are paid by the hour they'd be saving me money by going home. If they are paid salery to do a specific job and that job is being done then I don't care. If I asked them to do MORE than their job required I would expect to be asked to pay them more.

If you use common sense and caution, as well as remain a responsible employee, it is an issue for you and your employer.

I don't post from work and am too busy too, as well as not wanting to risk my position by surfing a porn site.

But, I know my employer and yes, it would be immediate termination.

So, be careful. There are lots of bosses here!

:D

KS this thread won't go anywhere except to insults about you....because you've made them feel guilty about ripping off their employer.

Exceptions: students, self employed and the Sunstruck/unemployed.

Good work!

I used to surf quite a bit while at work, but I never will again surf on non-biz matters. Of course in my line of work I have to surf and be able to surf - you can't be a software engineer, especially in web development, if you can't surf.

Well I just think its Crap that someone would be doing something to entertain themselves, while being paid good money by an employer.

I pride myself on efficiency, and thats why I am the most valuable, and highest paid employee where I work.

I simply get more...a lot more work done in the allotted time than anyone else.

I didnt ask to be paid more either, but the employer realized that my efficiency saved them overhead by generating more profit without making mistakes.

It basically costs them less to pay me twice what others make because I do three times as much as others do.

I do it because I am a hard dedicated worker, and I have ran my own business, and know what efficiency means to profit.

While I am at work about all I can do is check my yahoo and hotmail accounts. The company I work for filters everything so the chances of my going to Lit are slim and none. They (the company) considers lit a porn site. Go figure.

That extends to the computers at camp that can be used during a person's off time too.

fuckers:(

I would also like to point out that many european countries, and the likes of Japan, kick our asses when it comes to eficiency, and I doubt they let their employees just do the minimum, or perorm to a mediocre level, and call it good.

When I am being paid by an employer to work, I do work for that employer. If I am done with my duties, there is always something else that I can do to help the team, or someone who could use my help getting their stuff done.

Maybe I am a dinasour....I dunno.

But how hard is it to say "Welcome to Wal-Mart?" And I thought Carlita was Employee of the Month again?

I have worn both sets of shoes. As an employee, no, I don't post.

As an employer, whether it was lit, checking personal e mail or whatever, there were a few times I got annoyed with an employer using the internet during my time. On their lunch hour, I didn't care.

However, those who abused the privilege of internet access were often those who came in late, went home early or were basically dead wood on many fronts. Internet use was just an indicator of bigger problems.

KS, whatever it is you do, seems to involve manual labor, so you aren't around a computer anyway. You have no idea if surfing the net cuts into the productivity of a person who sits behind a desk all day.

That is sort of my point behind the scenes....People that will waste an employers time and money playing on the net during the time that they are being paid to get work done, are the same ones who arent worth the time or energy it takes to keep an employee, and if it wasnt the net, it would be constant trips the the restroom to read the paper, or chating with other employees bringing down their efficiency as well.

I'm paying you to work...you do work for me.

It's a pretty basic concept that seems to be somewhat lost these days...not in general, but the problem of innefficient non-cost effective employees is pervasive these days.
