Suppressive fire, is military for spraying the countryside with bullets to keep the Gomer's head's down But Damn this is too much.

GAO: U.S. Has Fired 250,000 Rounds For Every Insurgent Killed

There is an amazing (and startling) statistic out of Iraq and Afghanistan: the United States has fired an estimated 250,000 for every insurgent killed. The U.S. is going through so much ammo that manufacturers are struggling to keep up. In another milestone, U.S. troops in Afghanistan now surpass the number in Iraq.

The U.S. military are now importing ammo from Israel to keep up the rate of fire.

That's about 2,500 Pounds of lead for every Gomer!

No wonder there is an ammo shortage.

We don't really knw why there is an ammo shortage, do we?

I was googling it when I ran across that article. Some say it a reaction to the fear of the Obama-Usurper after Sandyhook. Some are saying that it's because of the inventory lag in the fourth quarter, just being made up. Some blame DHS for ordering Billions of rounds recently. SOme believe that it's just the gun nuts hording but I've heard of .22LR going for $80 to $130 a brick and .223 at $1.50 a round! WTF!

It appears the DHS has gone rogue.

DHS has the OPTION to buy about 2 billion rounds of .40 caliber hollow-point ammo from one distributor, not that they have bought that much. They can buy 200 round or 2 million rounds, whatever they decide. They do this every quarter, opening up a tab like a bar tab.The shortage of ammunition is due to panic buying and that one plant is temporarily shut down for maintenance and improvements.

I wonder how much of that is retrieved for recycling.

Many on the hill are asking why DHS has ordered 3 billion rounds. They will never tell.

After the Vietnam War was finished it was estimated that U.S.soldiers and Marines fired about one million rounds of small arms ammunition to kill one enemy soldier. this was due to a tactic called suppressive fire where you fire at places where you think the enemy might be hiding, not where you know that they are hiding.
