I think it's a great flick.

Of course it's all 'Michael Moore'-style but that's rather cool.

It was BOTH funny AND interesting.

It really is to be taken as a serious documentary on us eating habits, it really throws in some serious question, brings up some serious issues and gives (some) solutions.
Then it is absolutely funny at times and really bashes McDo.
I think everything that was shown was not faked but dear honest and I think that is really shocking and creepy.

The only criticism I have is:
- It could have been more funny or ironic or even cynical at times
- It should not only have dealt with McDo but all the other fast-food-stores as well. (I know McDo is the biggest and most influental but it makes the movie look more like an anti-McD film rather than an anti-fast-food film
- It didn't address all important reasons for obesity and left out some obvious faults other than just the fast-food-chains. (such as the respnsability of parents for instance)

But I guess as far as the time and bdget is concerned that this film had I think it did what it could. Which is, in a funny way, ask some questions and bring up some serious and alarming issues.

Yeah, Snoop, I saw it at the SIFF about a month ago. Good film.

It's about a guy who tries to live for a month on nothing but McDonald's. The most amazing thing for me was the physical transformation, how quickly his health goes downhill.

It could have dealt with more than McD's but the point of it was not the fast food industry (read Fast Food Nation for that -- I had no idea how wide-ranging the fast food conglomerates are) but the film made a pretty powerful statement on its own, just seeing how quickly the poor guy deteriorated.

I didn't come away with this feeling at all. Of course, I saw the movie some months ago, so maybe my memory is failing me. I had the sense that McDonalds, because of its ubiquity, merely served as a metaphor for the entire fast food industry and for America's gluttonous obsession with that crap. The movie, at least to my mind, didn't seem to imply that any other fast food outlet is any better (although we all know that Wendy's is)

Now if you'll excuse me, my pizza is getting cold.

'Supersize Me' is a documentary that just hit the theatres over here in Germany.

It's a major criticism on us-american eating behaviours, that is too many obese people that only feed on fast food and do no sprts or anything. Above all it bashes McDonalds for various things.

The idea of the movie is that there has been a sue of two overweight girls who wanted to sue McDonalds for their obesety.
A court ruled that it wasn't proven that Mcdonalds caused harm to them.

So the filmmaker decided to provide that evidence by eating three meals a day at McDo and nothing else. The rules were that he HAD to roder three meals a day, he HAD to only eat things that McDo sells, nothing else and he HAD to eat a supersize menu if he was asked by the clerk if he'd like to supersize it.

He consulted three doctors along the 30 days and had his health checked throughout.

During the movie, which is pretty funny AND serious, he provides all sorts of figures and statistics about us-eating habits.
So that's the deal.

I have not seen the film. I have seen a couple of serious studies that indicate the McDs serves food that is below even other fast food places in nutrition.

I can add a specific, personal study. I led a field crew that had to live on the range for several weeks while we installed a system for a customer. The crew consisted of very highly paid engineers or scientists down to much lower paid technitions. Where to eat was a problem. We found a couple of local restaurants that were affordable and tha most of the people liked. When time was short, we would eat in a fast food place. After one try no one would eat in Long John Silvers. McDs was very quickly crossed off the list. The one fast food place that no one ever complained about (except that we ate there too many times) was Wendy's.
