Riles said:Yes, yes. I understood the touch-down bit, but what I meant was, aren't the players continuiously moving "up" the field with each set of 10 yards they win? Or do they just keep going back to the beginning? I see the field is marked with numbers in intervals of 10, after starting at say "0" and then making "10" do they then play from "10" till they reach "20" and so on? Perhaps you're saying this already and it's just not getting through to me. My apologies.
The numbers go up to the 50 and then down again, like this:
Goal - 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 40 - 30 - 20 - 10 - Goal
The 50 yard line is midfield.
At the beginning of the game and after a score, one team kicks off to the other team. The returning team returns the kickoff as far as they can. It is at from that point that they take over on offense. If they return the ball to the 20 yard line, the'll need to get to the 30 yard line. If they return it to the 32, they'll have to get to the 42. If they return it to the 45 yard line, then they'll have to get it to the other 45 yard line (5 yards from the 45 to the 50 and 5 yards from the 50 to the other 45).
