Twenty-six: Sienna – Allyson.
Veronica was speechless. She looked back at Frank with a stare and in total disgust, but there was nothing she could do but follow his orders. In all the weeks I had known her, I had never seen nor believed that anyone could over-power her arrogance. Of course I often tried to outwit her, but never achieved in stopping her from having the last dominating word.
Frank took me to one side and asked if I could use a gun. I stared at him, shocked by his question, as I had never even held a gun in my hands let alone fire one. “A gun? I don’t think so. Why would I want to use a gun, Frank?”
“Just thought I’d ask. Silly question, but I had to ask just in case.”
“No, Frank tell me? Do you intend to use guns?” He took out a small handgun from the back of his belt and although it seemed tiny compared to others I had seen before in the movies, it was a lethal weapon non the less. He took my hand and clasped my fingers around its handle. “No way I could use this…no way!”
“I want you to have it for the time being. It’s for your protection and this particular one was designed especially for ladies. It’s so easy to use, just point and press the trigger.” As he explained I felt its weight in my hands and realised that he was making sense about protection. If Savage intended to take over Sweet Dreams then he would obviously use force and kill anyone who stood in his way. “Just a precaution hon, I would feel much better knowing you have it.”
Frank went about his business as I calmly got the girls settled down, trying to look as calm myself as I possibly could. And it was Sonya who first noticed how pensive I was. “Ay girl, you ok?” she asked. I kept looking up at the steps leading to the upper deck and she must have noticed that certain nervousness I was feeling. “Come on hon, you got to spill the beans, I knows that something bad is bothering you?”
“Its nothing, really. I don’t like sea travel.” I told her. She accepted that excuse like a mouse in a room full of cats, and she took me by the hand, quickly dragging me into the galley for a private chat away from the others. Once in there she pinned me up against the wall with both of her arms on either side of me and looked me straight in the eyes.
“Ally, yo goin’ to tell me everything that’s happenin’ here. There is something not right about the feelins’ on this ship, and you have something to do with it. So hon, tell me what is goin’ down?”
“I can’t. Honestly I really can’t tell you.”
“How long have you known me? You know we have a kinship here. I watch out for you and you watch out for me girlfriend. So you have to let me in on what is happenin’. And you can’t hide that gun in yo shorts. It was so obvious to me if not the others. I have lived in one of the worlds roughest neighbourhoods and I know trouble when I see it….”
“Alright! I don’t need your lecture Sonya. I heard it so many times before. But this is not for us to get involved in. The gun is just for protection that is all. And Adam is part of this stupid plan to take over the boat with the big guy from the other ship. He’s really a very bad person and the least you know the safer we all are.”
“I knows all that. I’m not dumb girlfriend.” Sonya replied. She was so cool about it as if she really knew everything. “Now hand over that gun and maybe I can explain a few things here.” I looked at her, trying to come to terms with what she had said. I could not believe she was part of this.
“Sonya! Whose side are you on?”
“The best side of course. And as long as they pay me my contract with those extras I don’t care whose bad or good, as long as I gets what I need. And you and I are part of the same gang here. If everything goes according to plan, then nobody is going to get hurt.”
“No Sonya! You are so wrong. Frank and his crew will get hurt and for what? Think Sonya, think? Because Adam is part of Savages evil little plan. Savage is a pirate!”
“A pirate? That isn’t what I been told. If anyone is a pirate hon, then it’s Frank. Adam told me all about this mission he was part of. Something about stopping Trevordick from shipping illegal drugs. He uses trips like this to hide his operations.”
“No, it’s not true Sonya. Listen to me…” I started to explain what I thought was happening and she quickly grabbed my wrist and spun me around, pushing the side of my face into the wall and taking the gun from my waistband. “No, Sonya, please listen.” I felt the gun in the small of my back as she held my legs apart with her feet. Then I felt her breath close to my ear.
“I didn’t want to do this honey, but it looks as if I have no alternative.”
