Anyone else feel like the intelligence community is generating a little fear, uncertainty and doubt this morning just to remind everyone about the boogyman? Nothing quite like justifying your budget and scope of authority when it is being questioned by Senators like Sen Leahy, who coincidentally said this week the 54 terrorist plots that were "thwarted" is bullshit.

I don't know. Just an alert would be one thing and I've often though they were bullshit but closing embassies is no small thing.

Like you said, and "alert" would be considered more noise. By scaring the crap out of the White House to the point where they close embassies it is moving the conversation away from privacy and over to security. Anyway, seems a little too convenient to me.

fear is the name of the game

intelligence and counter-intelligence operations know that to control, you induce fear.
why even bother worrying about iran and north korea having nukes? everyone knows if they used them their countries would be turned to ash.
it's kind of like someone who has been institutionalized for too long. they don't know know how to survive in the real world and to quote john trudell, "wanting and needing imprisonment." its all about control. you can tie a horse to a unsecured plastic chair and it will stand there thinking it is under control.
i will to this day believe the entire 9/11 thing was an inside job. corporations and government are now one entity.

speaking of "inside job", has anyone seen the documentary with this title? is it worth watching?

So I agree that this is some deliberate fear inducement on the part of the intelligence community, because they are losing the argument.

Inside Job does a breakdown of the roots of the crisis and does a great job of explaining the nature of the relationship between derivatives, credit default swaps and the sub-prime lending practices. Also puts it in a context of the global economy. It is a documentary and not a docudrama like a couple of the other movies, so a little dry. But incredibly informative.

I agree with what you all have said. However when shit comes down we hold Congressional hearings asking asking why didn't you do more? Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
