Summoned from the underworld.

Alyn

The imp cuddled into the warm blankets, thoroughly enjoying the banter between the humans. She listen with pointy ears, shifted her eyes from person to person, knowing exactly what they were speaking of. If only they knew, she thought. Her powers were twice the match of theirs combined. The Dark Lord never let his familiars leave without security. They were made to wreak havoc... Alyn cleared her throat.

"Maybe I can help?" She asked coyly. She cocked an eyebrow and eyed the mortals. "It's really not so difficult, you see..."

"So they claimed the Dean was away to parts unknown, do they?" Edwin thought to himself. Although, that was not much of a lie, really. Little is known about the plane of Hell, which is where that fat, incompitent simian is more than likely roasting away. But this one is..was his little sex slave, was she? That can open up some interesting possibilities. But the imp..the imp can pose some problems, if not handled soon enough.

Let them plot away. He was more than capable of handling anything the three of them could muster. For now, all he needed to do was watch and wait.

Cain:

Looking at the imp, Cain's brow tightened. He had forgotten his translation spell was still in effect. Blasted girl and her distractions, he wouldn't have made such a folly to speak so openly about what he intended to do in front of the imp otherwise. The fact that the coy little imp was offering her help to send her back to where she came from gave Cain pause. He took hold of Muffin's arm and pulled her out into the hall, so that the imp could not listen in on them. "On second thought... I think we are going to have to see about getting outside help..." He hated to even hint at not knowing what he was doing, especially to Muffin, the magically inept slut that she was... It... Galled him...

Now that the two plotting fools were out of the room, Edwin moved his Wizard Eye over to the imp.

"Greetings, mischievious one," he said through the Eye. "I do believe i have a proposal for you. And don't think you have any choice, because though you may be able to overpower those two simians that call themselves apprentices, they have about as much magical capabilities combined as a newt with the sniffles. I, on the other hand, happen to be a Red Wizard, and one of the most powerful, at that. Ahh.. I see from the way you cringe that you've heard of us. Good. So if you try to cross me, then you'll wish you were back in the Abyss having failed whatever master you serve. In exchange for doing what I tell you, I'll let have your fun here in the Material plane that you so want to have. Follow along with that ape of an apprentice for now, but you can have your fun with him. Just remember that you're here as long as I think your time here is ammusing."

The imp laughed out loud. What was this eye floating around the room talking to her? She had noticed it coming in with them, but she was so new to the human world, she thought perhaps it was normal.

"You? An eye? Have control over me? Ha! You underestimate me, you little orb." At that she plucked it from the air and swallowed it. She walked over to the window to look out into the night. The windows were open, a breeze flitting about, and she had sufficient room to fly out. She stood out on the balcony and dropped... swooping to the ground, and then up again and into the forest, free at last with her own free will.

Edwin sighed and covered his invisible face with his invisible hands. Silently, he mutter the precise string of arcane words needed to transport Alyn back into the room, and then materialized the eye right in front of her face.

"You stupid little bitch!" Edwin cursed. "I'm not the eye, you invalid! This is a Wizard's Eye! I may have overestimated you by FAR if you do not know something as simple as that!" Muttering a few more silent words, there was a flash, followed by a realativly small electrical current which danced up and down Alyn's little winged body, causing her mucles to spasm uncontrolably. "Let that be a lesson, simple minded one! Next time you cross me, i won't be so merciful! Though you cannot see me, I most assuredly AM a man, and whereever you go, I can see you and do horrible things to you at will! So be a good little demonspawn and PLAY NICE! Understand?"

Alyn shuddered and then grinned. This wizard would make a great friend and confident... if only he would be a little nicer, she could rock his world, and together....

"Stay here until the fool falls asleep, imp, then sneak out. Go to the highest room in the keep's tower, and we shall get better..aquainted."

"Outside help?" I was confused. Why would we need outside help? Unless he wanted to put up a field to contain whatever blasted minimal magics I managed to wreak havoc with. The feeling of frustrated irritation washed through me. So he didn't want to admit he needed help. We'll just see about that. "Why would we need outside help?"

The feeling of a slightly evil pressure coming from his room suddenly left. I looked at the door. "Your thing left."

Ooops. I had just given it away. I hoped to Gaiea that he didn't put two and two together and figure out that I nothing more than a trumped up mind mage. Dammit. I glared at him, it was all his fault anyway. A few more minutes and I would figure out how.

Cain:

Losing his sences, Cain barked. "Shut up will you! You innept little slut!" They returned with the look of shock on her face. The last thing he needed was her to start crying, which it looked like she would start any second from the expression on her face. "Stop that!" He sighed with irritaion. We have to get help, okay? Its as simple as that... Whatever that thing is... She is beyond my ken to understand... And certainly, as such far, FAR beyond your kenning... We can't go to the elders... They would see the both of us removed from the college in a heartbeat if they knew of this situation... It has to be a peer we can both trust not to betray us... Or one that we can strong arm... Unfortunately all the ones we could strong arm are about as inenpt as you..."

I felt like I'd been slapped. Shut up? Slut? SLUT?!?! I knew I wasn't the greatest spellcaster here, I wasn't all that inept. I narrowed my eyes at him, when in doubt, go on the offensive, or so my mother always said. She wasn't the greatest role model in the kingdom, but she was all I had to work with.

"I think I ken your thing much better than you do. I can fin-" I bit that off before I spit it all the way out. I didn't want him, of all people, knowing. And I didn't like him at all anymore. No, I didn't.

Cain:

slamming the palms of his hands against the wall, on eather side of Muffin's shoulders, Cain's eyes narrowed as he glared down into her own. "You can what?" He growled. A lock of charcoal black hair fell down along his cheek, from the sudden action.

Tiador

Tiador Gawynne stumbled, the tomes splaying about the hallway infront of his sleeping quarters. He was just rounding his third year at the magic academy. He sighed and began picking up the musty volumes.

Technically, no one was allowed to take books from the libraries at this late hour but all of the librarians knew him, he would oft be the only one in there, reading, alone. He didn't have many friends. The teachers were all excited to see him, grateful to have him in their classes, but they didn't count as friends.

He didn't have friends back at home either. His father was an officer in the Queen's Royal Guard. There were many other young men about, sparring and riding. Tiador, however, couldn't lift a sword without nicking a finger, and horses bit him. There were young women about too. But they didn't usually bite him, even when he asked. He was certainly told he was cute enough, (at least Mom said so), but he never had the courage to talk with any of the other girls. So, he didn't really complain when he was carted off to one of the finest schools of wizardry.

His instructor was so excited when the class was taught to channel a candleflame and Tiador scorched the ceiling. Tiador started to beam with pride then he saw the jealous resentment from his classmates. His heart sank again. Much to his chagrin, the whole school found out about his "aptitude." So, he studied his spells; at least the instructors liked him.

"You have a much Talent." he was told once. "And your technique is well practiced but your heart just isn't in it, Tiador." That's what most instructors said. So, he didn't really talk to them either.

With the stack of books in hand he sighed heavily. He stopped to look up and down the desolate hallways; he could've sworn he heard a noise. He shrugged, went into his room and quietly closed the door.

Alyn waited until the humans were too preoccupied with their verbal war to slip out of the door and find the stairs. She climbed several flights, then decided it would just be easier to fly the rest of the way up. She flew to the tower, a small room lurking behind a sturdy wooden door. She popped her head inside and looked around. Not much there; a fireplace, a couch, a rug and a window. SHe plopped down on the couch and started a fire with a flick of her wrist. The draft from the window was chilling her again.

The window slammed shut, and Edwin appeared out of nowhere, for his actions had undone his invisibility. He was not overly tall for a human, around 5'11", though, like most mages, he was rather skinny for his stature. A long crimson robe covered flowed down to around his ankles and its hood was thrown back to reveal a head of short brown hair. He wore a short, neatly trimmed beard, uneven on one side thanks to a series of tiny angles which formed a sort of stair-like pattern. A tiny silver sphere between his lower lip and chin glittered in the fire light, as did the silver ring that ardorned his right nostril and the matching pair in the upper and lower part of his left ear.

"Good. You have come as I asked," he began, "and i trust that the fools have no idea you're here?" He walked over to the fireplace and stood facing it. "I appologize for my actions earlier, but I felt the need to show you who was really in control in this little arrangement. It was justified, given what you are. But now.. now I shall make you MY familiar. Oh, don't look so dissapointed. You'll be given quite a bit more freedom than the usual familiar, and besides, this way you get to stay in the Material plane instead of being sent back where you belong. True, the fool who summoned you IS a bumbling imbacile of a half-whitted simian, but with a little help, he would have eventually sent you back. No matter. For now, unfortunately, you shall have to endure his presence, for if you were to dissapear, he and that little slut he encountered would be as good as gone, and though i don't care about him, i have plans for that little inept sorceress." He turned to face Alyn. "Of course, you have a choice as to whether or not you'll go along with what i'm offering, though refusing means that i shall banish you back where you came from. You'll not get another chance for your fun for another hundred years, unless i specifically summon you again before then. Think hard, but be quick, for time is not on your side right now."

My eyes went wide, flicking toward one of his hands, then helplessly meeting his eyes. No, I didn't like him at all. Not one bit. Not even with that sexy lock of hair curving along his cheek. I don't like him, I reminded myself. "I don't like you," I said, even though my heart was pounding and heat was pooling through my body.

"I can do stuff," I went on, glaring up at him. "I can help you, but only if you're nice to me."

His eyes narrowed dangerously.

Cain:

Cain held his sharp glare on Muffin for a moment longer, then broke away. He stepped back. "We need to find Tiadore... If any of the other students can help us, its that one..." Looking Muffin over with his sharp blue eyes, Cain pushed the lock of hair back into place. His lips were in a thin line as he kept his eyes on Muffin.

Dammit, just when I had him alone. "Tiador is in his room with all of those filthy books he likes so much." I waved my hand dismissively, accidently smacking him. Ooops. I shoved the chagrin down and tried to look like I meant to do that.

Cain:

Catching hold of Muffin's hand, Cain's thumb pressed into her palm. "I swear you are quite like an ox with your hands, no wonder your spells always go awry..."

"AN OX?!?!?!" I screeched, sounding like a fishwife of all things. He clamped his free hand over my mouth. I glared at him until he dropped his hand with a warning to be silent. "I don't look like an ox. I'm swanlike and graceful. My mother told me so. If you don't agree with me I'll turn you into a toad."

Cain:

A condescending smirk filled Cain's lips. "I was referring to the incompetence of your hands, nothing more. Calm yourself. Apparently your body is good enough for the head master, non?"

I looked up at him suspiciously. How did he know about that? I poked him in the chest. "Are you insinuating that my, uh, tutoring has anything to do with sex?"

Jackass. Everyone thought I was a virgin. They'd better be thinking that, dammit. He opened his mouth to say something. "I'm a virgin!" I bellowed.

Cain:

Something wicked came over him and Cain hissed. "Then prove it." One did not make it long in a wizards college without twisting the rules a bit. And he had seen to it that he would not be the one offering a foot step to any of the other students. Thus he had scryed a bit here and there, he had seen one of Muffin's late night "Cram" sessions with the old head master. It was mildly disturbing, the old coot moaning and wailing the way he was, his old, rheumy eyes practically bugging out of his skull. One night of spying on his chambers was enough for Cain for a life time.

"What makes you think I had anything to do with the Dean anyway? He just tutored me because I suck! I mean, because I'm not good at magic!" I tried to back pedal from this. What would mother do, ohhh what would mother do. I looked around for a handy whip and some leather, but there wasn't any.

I collected myself and decided dignity was better. If that didn't work, I could always drop something on his head when he wasn't looking. "How am I supposed to prove that?"

Cain:

"In much the same way as with the dean, I am sure." Cain said flatly as he leaned toward her. "Divination has its uses..." He whispered in her ear.
