I am looking to start a blog about my NYC sexual experiences/ adventures for the next twelve months. Any suggestions on a site that to host? I was thinking about blogger, just to keep cost down and it is easy. Any suggestions are appreciated.

i'm a fan of wordpress, myself: it too is free. it integrates quite well with various social media. is this just for self-expression or did you wanna do something more?

Thanks. I have also heard good comments about wordpress. This "project" is part self-expression/ mindfulness and part connecting with like minded people. I would like to see it grow and develop into something and then stepping back to see things unfold.

wordpress gives you some pretty good tools. if you want to take it to the next level, i guess it'll be time to look into a domain registrar.

Thanks for the feedback, Ed. I will start small (and free) and if it grows to the point that it needs it own domain, then I will consider it. I am working on developing an approach to explore this project.

I had several successful blogs on blogspot...blogger now.

I had analytics wired up to it so that I could watch where I was getting hits from.

Mountain View California crawls blogger practically daily because of course Google owns blogger...

Several times for various searchterms the blogs made page one of Google. I credit that partially for being hosted on a server at Google.

I'm yet to read a single blog that has made me want to go back for more.

Seriously? Never?

I always found that the good blogs never last more than a year before they go dormant...but there's always someone new interesting to read.

I always liked actual bloggers, I mean like Blogspot or WordPress blogs...different areas of interest, but people that write rather than just post pictures of their boobs, cats or food. Tumblr has made people lazy they just repost everyone else's stuff in a virtual circle jerk.

Back when I was blogging actively, lot of them were just experimenting with twitter which was on the rise then. I don't do pithy, so I never went that way. I don't get twitter's appeal.

I have to admit that I haven't been a participant in that community in a while..I've got too much emotional mal-investment reminders there, but I found it fascinating at one time.

I can't really direct you to any worthwhile ones at the moment, but I'd surf around til I found one that was at least tolerable and likely as not their friends and commentators were in a similar vein. Once you find a niche community of people that you can see yourself having coffee or beers with, it isn't very much different than finding yourself in a virtual apartment complex with self-selecting neighbors and no blinds.

edit: So I surfed a bit...nothing. Maybe since no one seems willing to read anymore, no one is willing to write. Sad. Truly.

writers always want to express themselves. unfortunately, the same is true of crackpots.

At various points in my life I have had blogs. Usually I think hey I have some great ideas for blog entries, which after those three are written everything goes downhill. From a very low hilltop to begin with, it's fair to say. That's all neither here not there, just a trip down memory lane.

For the OP, blogger and wordpress will probably be good options. If your blog is going to be sexually explicit it's a good idea to read up on the terms of use regarding that kind of stuff. Also, how many readers do you want to have to feel like it's worth your time? I suspect in this day and age it's tough to build up a large, consistent blog following.
