My story submissions get approved quickly, so I wondered howcome so many submitters end up in LIT Purgatory. Is it cuz they constantly check the pot for boiling water?

What do you mean by "quickly." My last two posted in four days. Before then, stretching back to Thanksgiving, it was five days. Yours are posting faster than four days at the moment?

4-5 DAYS

That's not particularly quickly. Last summer, they were taking about three days when there was no contest in progress. My latest ones took four days plus.

People report approvals taking weeks.

Not often--or without mitigating reason. You just haven't been paying attention because this contributing of stories to Lit. is something that's entirely knew to you and you are still in the "well, gosh" stage of doing it.

Its entirely 'new' to me, too. Maybe 'gnu' is the word I want.

Its easy to imagine Pilot in smoking jacket and beret, with a jelly glass fulla 7-ELEVEN merlot, sniggering.

PILOT? Think of me as the rake you keep stepping on.

On the other hand, I had the answer to this question and you didn't. :D

Laurel may be getting the post time down to three days again. One I submitted on Saturday is marked for a Tuesday posting.

I GNU YOU WERE GONNA SAY THAT.

I "new" you were going to respond with irrelevant African animals. :D
