Submission Delay

Hi! I submitted my story over a week ago and it's still sitting in pending. This is significantly longer than my other submissions in the past and I just want to see if anyone else is in the same boat, or knows if there's a huge backlog of January smut or something. Thanks!

I have heard of one other case where someone submitted a story and it took 9 days or so until it posted. At least they said in their profile that they submitted it on the 9th and it posted on the 18th.

Could be a backlog. Maybe a lot of people did a bunch of writing over the holidays while they had time off from work?

A week's delay is enough to send a polite PM to Laurel to ask if the story posting has been lost in the cracks. It's happened to me and was fixed quickly.

I'd be suspicious if it goes much longer. Since there's anecdotal evidence for a recent 9 day lag, that seems like a reasonable bar.

There's also a fairly regular glitch that's been happening where submissions fall into the cracks, and don't appear in Laurel's control panel for some reason. If it goes beyond that 9 days, I'd consider one of the two methods to remedy it.

You can open the submission, save changes ( even if you don't make any ) and that will reset its position in the queue. In almost all cases, this has worked for people in the past. Takes the normal couple of days from the time you reset it, but requires no additional intervention.

Or, you could PM Laurel and have her look into it. Her ID can be found as the thread starter on almost every thread in the Contest section of the forum, or as the starter of the sticky threads for contests here in the AH.

My last two stories took over a week to publish — neither were close to anything contentious. One was a word attached document so I submitted the next as a copy and paste to see if that helped the process — it didn’t. I then submitted an edit for one story and that took two weeks to be published.

I took it to be because of the Christmas break, but I also noticed some days vast numbers of stories are published, the previous week only two or three were published in the category each day. In BDSM yesterday so many new stories were published they didn’t fit on the front page but the seven days before only had a couple of stories published each day.

Maybe there is a glitch not showing up new stories to the site editors

Causes for Delays

I too have seen submissions take more than a week to get posted, and I have noticed that these delays have all seemed to correlate closely to an ongoing contest submission period.

Since the reviewers are likely giving priority right now to the "Valentine" contest entries to get them posted as soon as possible to allow more time for them to be read prior to the deadline, it would stand to reason that stories not entered in the contest would take a bit longer to get posted.

As a case in point, my recent submission for the Valentine contest was posted within 24 of submission.

It's also possible that Laurel is busy putting together the nominations for the yearly awards so it may be slowing her down a bit. I have three edits that have been waiting over a week but I'm not worried about when they get posted.
