I recently read the Da Vinci Code and being a minor netfreak immediately went on to danbrown.com and found 'The Da Vinci Code Challenge'. So I toiled and laboured and got through the challenge right up to the last page, where it told you to call this number. Now, I live in the UK and the number was American (hence expensive call). Me, being stupid, decided the number was obviously fake and called anyway.

Somebody with a French accent picked up. Obviously not a fake number. Obviously not an automated response congratulating me on getting through the challenge. GAH.

I completely flipped, didn't know what to do. Now, the instructions (written supposedly by the French Judicial Police no less) told me to ask for Jonas Faukman. However, Jonas Faukman does not exist as he is a fictional character, and I had just called somebody with a French accent, who was obviously real. My immediate thought was 'oh my god I've just called the French Judicial Police' so I said 'sorry, wrong number' and hung up. Then I realised it couldn't have been the Police because the lady said 'hello?'. She had a French accent, but she was speaking English. Which means she has to be in America.

Which makes me think that I should have asked for Jonas Faukman, and they would have passed me on to some prize-giver and I would be handed $100 or something. Course, on second thoughts that wouldn't happen, but gr, I got the fright of my life when somebody who was not a machine actually picked up the call.

You people done anything stupid recently?
