Many years ago, when I was a small boy, "jack off" was the term used to mean masturbate, for boys. "Beat the meat" was also used. Later, when I left the small town where I was raised, I heard "jerk off", and still later "beat off". We had no term to describe female masturbation except the bland "play with herself" or variations because there seemed to be no need because it was generally conceded that those few women who had any interest in casual sex would have plenty of men available so there was no need for them to masturbate. Only recently did I hear "wank" or "stroke" used. The source of the latter is obvious but I don't know where "wank" comes from.

If a woman is getting herself off by inserting her finger or some object, and pumping in in and out, I suppose you could call that jacking off or wanking but if she is just rubbing her cit, what would you call it? "Masturbating", of course, or stroking, but what else?

By the way, Wishful, if the wanking kit had a condom and the guy was using it, how could he hit the target?

I don't know what "directed wanking" would be either, unless it is one person telling another to wank because he or she likes to watch.

I didn't realise Americans actually said shite. It's spread afrom 'oop North' down to the South of England, but whereas Northerners and especially Scotsmen use it as just a straight swop for shit ("Ah shite!") down south it's used as a descriptive term. You bang your thumb with a hammer you say "Ah shit!" If you're talking about new Labour then you comment on how shite they are.

My grandma said it all the time (in replacement for shit.) I guess she thought it sounded less unladylike than actually saying "shit." I think at times it's used as a sort of euphamism.

I've usually heard this used as "a load of shit". When someone is bawled out, he later says to someone about it: "He gave me a load of shit." I don't think the person who does the bawling out ever refers to it in those words, though.
