Haven't been on this site in awhile, mostly due to the job as I had very long hours.
I need some advice on a strap-on for me to use on my wife. I have tried extensions and sleeves but are basically useless because of my small size.
I went to a sex shop and was totally confused. Pretty much all had pictures of women wearing them and I'm not sure if that matters. Some said phthalate free or latex free or this or that. The person working wasn't helpful at all.
Basically I'm looking for a strap-on for me that is 8" in length with about a 5 1/2" - 6" girth. Plus it can't have a plasticy or latex smell or taste. We want the dong to be realistic and not some plain plastic looking thing.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you near a larger city, like Toronto? If so, I'd suggest finding the best toy store there (one that focuses on educating customers in a non-threatening environment) and going in to get educated. Once you have an idea of what you want, you can shop around online. If such a store is out of your range, Babeland.com has amazing educational guides/info on strap-ons.

Because it sounds like you're looking to use this quite a bit, get yourself a good harness. I like leather, but comfort, adjustability and versatility are your primary objectives. I'd suggest getting one that has an o-ring so you can use any dildo that has a base. For dildos, you definitely want to invest in 100% medical-grade silicone. There will be no smell or taste to it, it warms up, and you'll be able to sanitize it multiple ways (boiling, dishwasher, bleach solution). Pure silicone dildos are spendy, but if you choose correctly, you can get away with just one for quite sometime.

Honestly, I'd suggest including your partner in the dildo shopping so you get something you both enjoy.

Yeah, what SE said. :)

Some of the materials used to make toys break down over time, and become very irritating to your skin, and some people have allergies to the materials anyways, so that's part of the reason for different (and better=more expensive) choices.

Most of the toy stores I've been were pretty cookie-cutter types with the same routine of selection. And I'm sure that for most adult stores, the majority of their inventory is on the level of novelty and not terribly comfortable. But the packaging is really nice.

You might look at the harness and the prosthetic (which I think is the right term) as being 2 separate items...the former being durable and comfortable, with lots of adjustment and wide straps, and the latter being sized correctly for your need, and made from the right material with the right feel (which you'd just have to open the package and try, unfortunately).

Not sure if you can do much about the smell really. Nothing but glass would be fragrance-free, I suspect.

Thank you for the reply. I was trying to surprise her with it but have decided to go to the store we know in Toronto that was very helpful to us before.
I will check out the site you referred and educate ourselves better. Definitely would prefer to spend a little more and get something better that'll last. I like the idea of the O-ring so you could switch sizes.
