New avatar. I'm quietly impressed with how artistic it looks, despite the fact that the lighting effects were completely accidental.

I guess even a broken watch is right twice a day. Except for my broken watch, of course. The hour and the minute hand got stuck independently and then started moving again, giving rise to such wonderful times as half-past ten to five, or quarter to quarter past six, etc.

That's quite worryingly impressive. How'd you do that?

It's accidental; I just turned down the dimmer switch in the room cause the previous photo had too much glare on it.

Of course. I am, as always, a fragile ego and have noted which type of avatar pictures elicit the best reaction from people.

Of course, to suggest that I have these pictures up as my avatar just to boost low self-esteem would be slanderous and would require me to sue someone.

Tungsten light has a yellow cast. At low levels tungsten turns orange to brown. It was either that, or a sepia filter.

Yet the depth of focus is quite deep, so either it is an electronic image, or else the film was pushed in the developer. (At that size, even on pushed film, the grain might not be obvious.)

I know about photographers who experiment with colour film. You would practically have to beat them over the head, to keep them from telling you what aperture, exposure, film stock, filter and processing they had used to achieve a special effect.

So, I took a chance and guessed at a digital camera and tungsten light, no filters.


In any case, it is an arresting image -- especially from a digital camera.
