Story rejected for AI.

I'm looking at all that Finnish, and it's like those lines of random characters you get if Word tries to open a corrupt file.

The shapes of the words and the letter distribution makes me think this language really wants to be written with Nordic runes, but it was sadly shoehorned into a mundane Latin alphabet.

I once saw someone list about 8 different forms of a word in German, but the Finnish beat that easily--it was something like 36.

Ultimately, though, this is comparing apples and oranges. The grammatical foundations of these languages are substantially different than English, so it's not really meaningful to throw these 'shocking' numbers.

In other words, if you wanted a fair comparison, on the English you'd have to do something like count every distinct way in which a verb like "get" can be used.

As they promised they both helped me with my problem. It is quite amazing to experience that I got help so fast from the people I don't know. So there is still some good people around us. I will try to publish my story once again. I hope that after all that effort that three people have made by editing my story it will be published.

I am not sure when I write something next time. I don't want bother many people with my problems again and again. I have some ideas what I could write but everything is now open.

I still would like to be able to write colorful language in English too. Like some have written here Finnish is a lot different language than English so it is impossible to translate it directly. There is great knowledge needed from the both languages if you want to be successful in it.

Rewriting or rephrasing a text that’s been flagged for AI won’t cut it. It’s not just the words; it’s the rhythm, the syntax, the patterns that give you away. A rewrite still carries the same fingerprint.

The only suggestion I have is to taint the text with double spaces, commas, and periods—flaws subtle enough not to bother readers but distinct enough to fool a detector.

This is bad advice based on vibes.

I just spent the ENTIRE day yesterday writing my story. Only to have it sent back for being AI. So I rewrote every single word BY MYSELF which took the ENTIRE day today, and it got rejected for AI use again. If I used AI it would have taken me less than an hour to complete my story. I just wasted a whole day for nothing. I don't think I'll be posting on here anymore. I was really excited to put my second version of my story and I am so devastated after wasting two whole days that I am actually in tears! AI is freaking useless why would I use it? It never gets the tone right, gives incorrect corrections, and makes all rephrases WAY too formal. Would would anyone use AI? I didn't! I'm not posting on here anymore sorry guys but I won't waste any more days on this stupid site.

Very hurt. Was really excited for my second version because I spent months on it. I think I started on my second version in June or July. Took me an entire day to do all the final edits yesterday. Spent the entire day re-typing every single word.

When I started writing on the site, it was the first time in a year I had something to look forward to. And the first time ever to have people actually interested and wanting more. I just wanted to give you my best work in this second version. But LItercica moders ruined it for me.

The AI detector here is hyperactive. It spews out a lot of false positives. I have had two stories falsely flagged as AI. I had to submit one of them FOUR TIMES!

That's the problem. Writers re being falsely flagged for things the wrote themselves, not AI. it's happened to me twice now.

One thing that might be a problem for non-natives is that AI detectors tend to pick up on formal language, but not slang. Using some slang or some very colorful expressions reduce the chances of getting flagged. Non-native speakers generally don't understand slang well enough to know how to use it in a story.

More to the point, though... I don't use any grammar tools, and only a handful of my 20+ stories had anyone's eyes on them other than my own. Perhaps the deficiencies in my own grammar is what ultimately saved from every having an AI rejection.

I had one or two comments early on about needing an editor, before I (mostly) figured out how narrative tense works. I've read through several articles on that and on dialogue punctuation to make sure I have those aspects sorted out. As for punctuation in general, my tagline says Comma Aficionado for a reason

So I guess the bottom line is that you can write in English as your non-native language without the usage of AI-like tools, be it for translation and composition. In my case, however, the massive caveat is likely the fact that I use English constantly in my professional work and have lived in English-speaking countries for several years.

Any suggestions how the narrative tense works, fir someone who isn't offended if you joined the Dutch?

And besides, I think most of the rejections are for native speakers anyway, which brings me back to my original point. It's not just about the words; it's about the patterns.

Well, yes, in some cases. Speech is less formal than writing, so if you write it more as you would say it, you reduce your chances at being falsely flagged.

That's funny, because using a third-person omniscient voice at all is baffling/distracting to me, unless a specific story has a really compelling reason to do so. And part of that is indirectly related to slang. By which I mean I generally want each part of a story to have a recognizable voice. You can definitely have a character speak in slang in their narration voice, outside of dialogue, especially in first person. I think it adds a lot of charm if done well.

But what kind of voice do you give an omniscient narrator?

It's not that it's impossible to answer that question, but it's way beyond the scope of most stories that are going to go on Lit. So it usually just ends up being more on the clinical side. And I find it really jarring to see into the thoughts of several characters at once. Plus it makes it incredibly easy to just be lazy with exposition, since you don't need to be able to explain why the narration knows a thing.

But I'm a native English speaker. I can see how all of that is a level of subtlety that would be very difficult to learn as a second language. I certainly can't even come close to imagining writing with that level of subtlety in French, which is the only other language I even kindof speak.
