Story Idea #4 and a Challenge

Let's shake things up. I will share with all a killer idea for a story I created on YET ANOTHER sleepless night. I would LOVE to see variations posted at one thread. Imagine being able to read the same concept in different styles at one spot. It probably won't work but I'll do my part.

My working title is Silver & Gold. The place/time is the Ukraine or Europe somewhere in the 17th or 18th century. A castle dominates the horizon of a poor town where all are pheasants. Tradition has it that once per generation all virgin women attend a dinner/dance at the castle. All are given a locket that contains a key. At the end of the night the locket is opened. Most contain wooden (useless) keys but two conatin a silver or gold key. The silver key opens a chest that rewards the bearer with wealth. The gold key opens a door that...

How about this for a variant on the theme?

The setting is mutable, your favorite historical era or fantasy setting. The young women involved are all powerful in their own right - they could be nobility, or aristocrats in a historical setting, corporate executives perhaps in a more modern milieu.

What the evening offers them, offers one of them, is even more power, or wealth, or fame. Whatever would be a big enough hook. But the risk is considerable.

The audience comprises men, the peers of the women (other aristocrats, executives, whatever) and women who have competed in previous years.

Two at a time the women are called forward and a random forfeit is chosen and announced. If either woman does not wish to risk doing the forfeit she can withdraw from the entire competition and the other advances to the 'next round'. If both wish to stay in the competition then both women undertake the forfeit - each would be measureable in some way. The lady who performs the best advances to the next round, the other is dismissed.

Finally only two will be left. One final forfeit is announced which both must undertake.

Need I point out that the forfeits will be sexual in nature and increasing in (how shall I put it...) imagination as the evening progresses.

The winner of this final forfeit is presented with the two keys, one is golden, the other silver.

Neither woman knows which key unlocks the prize, and which unlocks the penalty.

The winner chooses the key she wishes to have, the loser gets the other one.

Wealth, power, rank and influence for one woman, and for the other... whatever the penalty is (though given the forfeits already undertaken it would have to be something special to count as a risk!)

That is VERY good. Now this is synergy in action. I may be tempted to revisit this idea in the future. For any others, it's a great idea to run with.
