Have you ever written an SO or ex into a story? Why or why not?

After I joined Lit and began to write stories, I used my guy as a character template because I was just starting out and I wanted to see what it takes to build an erotic male lead. The result of the experiment was Tobias in Another Lonely Christmas. Other incarnations of A are featured in Deep Blue Sea (WIP) and Unbreak My Heart (Valentine's 2007). ;)

Actually yes, twice. One of the stories here is on Lit, I'm debating on putting up the second.

The first was to help me get her out of my system really. I wanted to date, but she didn't want to date me. It was crushing. I wanted our relationship to wander down a fantasy path and I was able to do that in The Hardest Answer. I do realize that The Hardest Answer is missing the 'hard relationship' things: fights, confusion, lulls. I have written those parts. Not that I don't want to share them, but they're awfully close to my heart right now.

The second, which has yet to be posted, is probably only half of the personality my first (and currently last) boyfriend. This is the part of him I had the most trouble with --I couldn't connect to him. The other side of this same man, I made the hero. Just simplfied him for my needs in the story. Also helped me realize that he was such a jerk when we dated. Now, he's the greatest guy in the world honestly. We go out, we laugh and there's no pressure for anything.

I have better relationships with my writing than I do in real life. Only moderately depressiong.

Used ex's or SO's as characters? Well, I haven't the most inspiring list of old ex's, which is why they're ex's. I have used one ex in a story, but not erotica. As for my SO...yes, he inspired one character in my stories (just inspired)...but I ain't gonna say which one ;)

I will say this, the character he inspired developed into his own individual. Which is the best thing about such characters, they often take on a life of their own and walk away from their origins.

Certainly, I kill off my husband many times in my writing and in my dreams. Just not in real life, sigh. I've also used exs, a few crushes, and a couple of really dreamy dreamy actors. Adrian Paul comes to mind. He was in one of my very first novels I ever wrote. I was a Highlander fanatatic. That man in jeans, no shirt or shoes, jeans undone...damn he could take my head anytime. Ethan in Dark Reasons was Ryan Reynolds from Blade three, just a little less buff.

Endless was a study in the real people in my life. My little sister, Ken, and a few others that shall remain nameless.

The only thing I've never used were my dogs. Somethings must remain sacred. :catroar: :D :p

No, 'Rora, I haven't. But you've given me an idea for a future story. I may write a fictional account of my 52 years with my wife. It will be hard to make it an erotic story though. Would have to go in Non-erotic or maybe romantic. Definitely not LW, because there's no infidelity in our lives. Some lusts maybe, but no (physical) infidelity.

Hope you're enjoying your time with A while he's home. Be sweet to him.

Yes and No.

Several of my ex-SOs have been used as part of a character but no character except jeanne_d_artois' Fag-Ash Lil is based on a real person.

Fag-Ash was a local feature for many years. She was tolerated as people used to tolerate the village idiot - harmless but a slight nuisance.

Yes, indeedy. :D

In Soon, and in I Alone the male protag is someone very special. ;)

I've also killed off an ex in one of my WIP. Very theraputic.

Danica is very much written to my girlfriend, and a lot of her personality is in there. It's a fantasy twist, but she's certainly in the character.

Cat from Home by the Sea is an old fatal attraction, the one you keep going back to no matter how bad they are for you.

Colette from Ebon Genesis and Arilee from Blackhawk both have a little bit of the same missed opportunity in them.

Christi and Alicia ( Blackhawk, Thakkor, Alicia ) are both old crushes.

There are probably more, if I actually sit and think about it. There will be another one soon, whenever I get the idea to fully congeal in my head.

Yep.

Chronicles of Passion: Earth Day Ch. 01 'Lee' is a slightly embellished version of my SO. (There's a 27 year age difference between me and my SO. Also, he's bald. :D)

Dreams of Meeting and Lovely Day for a Ride are based on an internet love that ended in pain prior to meeting my SO. 'Michael' lives in England and is the one who gave me my name.

Blessed Friendship (poem) was written about the man who introduced me to Lit. He was there for me when 'Michael' shattered my heart.

Cyber Lover... (poem) was inspired by an AHer who's no longer around.

I'm worried that this thread is setting some of us up to be sued for defamation.

All characters are fictional, aren't they?

Of course they are. In the end. ;)

I'm more interested in how the ideas were planted in the authors' minds by their SO/exes than anything else.

No, Aurora.

My SO is not someone I have ever used. I use myself in many of my stories - my name, at least, and occasionally the real me. I tend to be hard on myself in my stories, even allowing my characters to kill me once.

I wrote Bitter Harvest for A. It was in July, and he had just left to return to the soldier camp for who knows how long (it turned out to be only 2 months, but I didn't know that at the time). I was at the vacation house, sitting in our room and grieving.

I already had the idea for the story in mind, but only when I "lost" him did I allow the words to flow out of me. As a result of this explosion of love and the pain of separation, I wrote over 20,000 words in 5 days (17,500 for BH, and 3,000 for another Halloween story that I later scrapped).

Jack's character isn't based on him, but I took all of my love for A and used it as a driving force behind Claire's drastic actions in the story.

many of the elements in my story Choices were based on real events in my life. 'Chris', the main male character was not only named after a toxic ex, he was also based on his personality along with my some facets of my current sometime b/f. Unfortunately the current b/f read this story and recognised some of it! hmm... I denied it of course.
I also wrote another story (not on Lit as yet), featuring the name of an ex and making the character as despicable as possible out of nastyness. The ex and I had a reconciliation and he subsequently read the story - ooops, he wasn't terribly flattered. haha. ;)

I would find it difficult to entirely divorce my experiences and past 'amors' from my writing - I don't think many could, but let's not sidetrack this thread by postulating.

Yes.

Which ones? Joy & Silent Night - though the 'happy family' scenario in the latter was pure invention.

Definitely. Most characters are based on people I know or have characteristics from them. Including exes and crushlets.

Oh, and I have written aplenty o poems about all my present and former SO's.

well one story that was very influenced by an ex, and by events in my real life is "two years after valentines day" (um... i think that was title... gotta check, i am not sure anymore)... of course i did change things, also parts of his description and character, but there are other parts that are still true...

in the rest, now... i have started or had the ideas for a few stories based in part on people i met while traveling (and the things that could or did happen between them and me) but those are obviously not SO or exes...

I'm sort of like a comedian in that respect, no one is safe from being made into a caricature for one of my stories, not my grandma, not my dog...no one.

Most recently, I used the qualities of my redneck ex-boyfriend for Katie's worthless but sexy ex-husband in 'Katie's Eden'. I've said before that Hank from 'Hot Buttered' is part Sawyer from the series Lost and part guy I had a one night stand with ages ago. Some people just make an impression on you.

I draw lots of characters from real life and lots from other places like tv, movies, art, music, etc. Inspiration is the easy part, making that character walk and talk and really come to life is work sometimes. :)

I've never used an SO or an ex as a main character, but just about all my characters are based on real people to some extent. I've found all the people in question that inspiring.

Have I?

Yes.

Why or why not?

I accept input from my surroundings as the basis for my stories.

I used my ex-wife in my first story. It's not a sympathetic portrait for some reason. ;)

Used internet crushes a few times.
