Is there anything I can do when a story is being rating bombed?

Most of my work is are Rated Hot and my new one was doing the same at 4.7 to 5 then suddenly a whole bunch of 1 start must have come in back to back because it dropped in a hour to 3.8

If they are legit ratings ok I can take my lumps but they seem intentional, and considering I had to block some rude fans on twitter just yesterday its seems to not be a coincidence. Can we see rating details or can Admis scrub for suspicious behavior?

My last story:

How many views do you have on it?
For very new stories Lit doesn't show views to readers and from my end the rating is still at 5. Give it a few days to settle down, more likely than not it will bounce back to where the rest of your stories are.

Thank you for replying and yes it was running at or near 5 (I think 4.9) and labeled hot when it passed 10 then within an hour it went to 16 reviews and rating of 3.8, I agree I need to wait it out but didn't know if the author had any recourse to report suspicious ratings or if I could see more details (like are they all suddenly new users). Again thank you for reading the comment and replying I am new to using the forums much.

Wait for the next contest sweep to go through. You should see an adjustment in score - a slight drop in Views, a kick up in score. An algorithm scrubs through all stories, not just those in the contest, and purges votes. We don't speculate how this is done, but it's a regular process the site does, and it does have an affect on scores.

That's a fairly typical pattern of vote behaviour, by the way, and sixteen votes is too few to give you a fair indicator. Wait a month, is the other advice I can give you (which is hard to do, I grant you).

I'm not sure you really want an honest answer here. I just read both part 1 and 2 they were terribly short and should have been combined into a single submission along with what happened later. I am straight, but this is not BDSM, this is total gaybashing assault. You have your MC get accosted in a park and then go home with the attitude of 'oh well'. The two days later he gets a delivery and suddenly the driver attacks him, sexually assaults him and even robs him. The idiot takes without a whimper, like it is all in the daily life of a 'twink' as you call it. Virtually no plot, just some loser getting assaulted.

That is good info about the sweeps thank you and yes it seems waiting is the strongest thing I can do in meantime, thank you for replying

I appreciate the feedback, when I post longer ones people suggest breaking them down so this is a 10k words story but I am posting in 4 parts to break it up. As to the reaction of characters and gay bashing, while I may disagree with some of what you say I value your feedback and do thank you for sharing them.

I had a story that was doing really well the first 2 days after upload as well recently. It was 4.9 and the suddenly dropped like a brick. Got me thinking, if your score shoots up really high then inevitably you prob end up on the given categories’ hot list or top rated list. I imagine that either attracts haters or more scrutiny from those who think highly of their opinions.

Sadly true. I went onto the hot list at number one in Lesbian Sex with 4.97 after 105 votes with my story Thirty. After 130 votes it had dropped off the top list. It's recovered a little now, but there was definitely some 1 bombing going on.

With so few votes, your score is highly subject to wild swings. It's a very short story — less than 1 Lit page. That means more people are going to get to the voting form, and really short stuff doesn't perform all that well here. I have limited experience in BDSM, so I'll let people more familiar with the category and the readership comment as to the content, if necessary.

There could be a one or two in there, but it's just as likely that most of those six votes were 2s, 3s, and 4s. Remember, any time your score is above 4.0, anything but a 5 causes your score to drop.

Thank you that is some good insight

Without having read the stories in question, I can say it’s a common problem.

Welcome to Lit. Like most places on the Net, here dwell trolls who will one-bomb simply for the pleasure of irritating others. My analogy has always been that they’re like toddlers with wooden building blocks - unable to build anything themselves, they take their pleasure in knocking down what others have made.

Hang in there. Sweeps do correct the problem. In the meantime, nothing personal, but I generally advise against openly complaining. Again with a toddler analogy - trolls are like two-year-olds spouting potty words. To acknowledge them, to give them attention, is to give them what they most want.

Patience, Grasshopper.

Thank you for replying and interesting on the vote count, my most voted story is only 86 and that has been up since lasted year, most peak out at 20-30 votes for me

Followers were probably the first people to read your new stories. This is an audience who is predisposed to give you top scores. Then as readers from the "new stories" lists find it and read it, they aren't as likely to be among your pre-existing fans.

Good advice thanks and I was more looking to see if there were any tools or recourse but it sounds like there are sweeps that happen and otherwise just waits out the ride. I am good with that, now that I know there is nothing I can so then I just roll with it. again thanks

Thank you for the insight, I may repost as the full story 10k instead, based on previous feedback I broke that into 4 parts, 2 are posted, this is admittedly the smallest one but for the plot I wanted to keep what happens in parts 3 &4 whole. again thanks

Actually, it is possible to ask Laurel, one of the site owners, for a special sweep. Hit the Report icon and ask. Sometimes she will and sometimes she won’t, but the scheduled sweeps generally take care of the crabgrass.
Good luck.

It happens. What was my top story has over 1200 votes and has dropped 0.05 points in the past month of so with a relatively few number of new votes. The new view count in not keeping pac e. My top ten or do stories have dropped +/-0.03 with similar circumstances. I’ve reached out to Laurel. I guess she’s doing what she can.

Messing around with the math after letting off my fountain show, I'd say it's most likely there's a couple of 1s been dropped on it. There's some ambiguity as always, but assuming most of the rest of the votes are 5s ( Which is fairly typical. It's either all or nothing with very little nuanced voting in the middle ) it takes two full-on bombs to get to 3.8 from 4.90 in 6 votes.

As everyone has been saying, the sweeps will probably help you out. The bulk of trolls aren't very sophisticated, and their voting patterns are easily recognized as malicious and removed. It could be later tonight, it could be next week, it could be next year ( if someone a little smarter decided to crap on your score ) but they'll probably go away eventually.

The best cure for low scoring is always to keep writing and posting. Every new submission nets you new fans ( Some authors don't believe they have them, but they're wrong. LOL You pretty much develop at least a limited fanbase the moment your first submission posts. ) and their votes will increasingly dull the impact of score bombs as time goes on.

Fretting about a .03 or a .05 change, with 1200 votes on board, is to be honest, a little ridiculous. Someone giving you a 4 not a 5 will do that. That's so far down into the noise it doesn't matter, surely?

That math doesn't seem right.
