So, I have bitten the bullet and entered my first competition, I wondered if any others who have done this can answer:

If you get accepted to be part of it, do you get a notice or message (saying, “You’ve been entered into the competition.”)?

No. The first you know is when the list of entered stories is published at the official start of the competition.

You will however - as with all submissions - get a notice that it had gone up on your personal dashboard.

Just make sure you've added the appropriate note in the "Note to Admin" field, otherwise it won't be entered.

Thank you, Ogg, I will keep an eye out for the list and my fingers crossed. It would be a thrill to make the list!

I was on this site in 2017 and 2018 with my current pen name. I left for reasons I won't go into, had all my stories pulled down, and stayed away until last year sometime. Totally by accident, I entered my story, "In the Arms of Succubus," in the Halloween contest. It's one of the few stories I put up from when I was here before. But either in 2018 or 2017, it was in the contest. No, I didn't win. As it turns out, "for Halloween" (or something similar) was the trigger phrase to enter. I think I had "For your Halloween reading pleasure," in the tagline.

You don't even get notified separately from an announcement to the discussion board if you place. And you don't receive a message on how to collect your winnings, either. You have to ask for it. (At least that's how it's stood since this year's Valentine's Day contest that one of my accounts took first place. Nothing direct was received from the Web site and I didn't claim the winnings.)

I suspect Laurel runs a search over newly submitted stories looking for specific key words in the Notes to Admin field. Eg, for the current summer comp you must have Summer Lovin 2022. If you had "my summer story for the competition", it would probably get delayed or worst case, missed completely.

Nice story. I've left a comment. It'll show up sooner or later! :)

PS, I voted a 5 on the story.

Thank you for the feedback, Millie.
You picked up on my lazy way of creating some dramatic tension, an inappropriate relationship is a way for a simple minded writer such as myself to create barriers and jeopardy.
