Stopping the Caravan.....maybe.

I guess right now they've decided that tear gas is going to stop it.

How about we rewrite the law to have it match the realities of the 21st century? Particularly in regard to those claiming 'refugee' status.

Let's start with the fact that those from nations other than Mexico attempting to enter through our Southern border are already in violation of accepted international norms. And the fact that those that do make it through and are given a court hearing date only 30% (+/-) show up in court. Those that don't show up in court are immediately switched to illegal status and a 'failure to appear' beef is added to their list of transgressions. In all probability they are working the underground economy, also illegally. Not to mention that a goodly many of them are also wanted criminals in their own country.

They are uneducated, unskilled, unhealthy, and we just don't need them.

That was corrected, or at least changed, in the Senate bills that have been passed. However the GOP controlled House refused to take it up. It seems to me that they like the controversy. Ginning up the base is more important than actual border security and immigration reform.

Until it is changed, follow the law.

The senate bills were a joke.

Look at Ish trotting out totally false numbers for the % who show up in court.

Just keep parroting Trump's talking points, moron.

Why is it that the same people who like to profess what a "Christian Nation" we are happen to be the same ones who support the most Unchristian policies?

Donald Trump Gets Fact-Checked By Reporter Right To His Face, Walks Away

CBS’ Paula Reid challenged Trump over his discredited assertion that his administration’s policy of separating migrant children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border was the same as that conducted by former President Barack Obama.

“Obama had a separation policy. We all had the same policy,” Trump said. “You did not have it, sir. No, you didn’t,” Reid fired back.

Trump said he “tried to do it differently” and claimed “Obama had a separation policy” but “people don’t like to talk about it.” As Trump walked away, Reid said: “Sir, it was different. You decided to prosecute everyone at the border.”

The United States have not been a good neighbor and our policies and behaviour has led to the corruption and instability in Central America, etc. The United States need to correct this. They may have to hold their nose, but we have to stop interfering. Not everyone is like us. As far as asylum goes, it is my undertanding that, under international law, you cannot cross the borders of a third country (ie. Mexico) and still be considered an "asylum-seeker".

A border patrol agent just whined that they were outnumbered and needed to use tear gas out of fear.

Lemme get this straight... We sent THOUSANDS of troops to the border, we knew the EXACT location (San Ysidro) where they would most likely forcibly enter the States yet somehow we were still outnumbered? Hilarious joke, 45. Real fucking funny.

Let's start with the fact that we have interfered very little and only when there is no other choice. We do not promote instability, it's bad for business. We have first been accused of propping up dictators, we didn't, we just did business. And we continued to do business with socialists that the South and Central American nations have put in power on a regular basis. And when their economies go to hell as a result of their own policies, we get the blamed. God forbid that they take responsibility for their own actions.

Right now Chile alone is prospering and stable. (You can add Costa Rica to that list for now anyway.) Argentina and Brazil are in the process of trying to recover from their most recent socialist mistake, a mistake that put both of them in the fiscal shit house. Mexico has decided to elect a socialist now that they are beginning to prosper, look forward to that prosperity ending.

Venezuela may require intervention in the future. Their infrastructure is coming apart and their people are starving. How can that happen to an oil rich nation?

Let's make it a felony to knowingly hire an illegal alien with mandatory prison time on the second offense.

Unfortunately, documented facts and recorded history say you are wrong, sparky.

Again.

The prisons would be clogged to overflowing...then you would suggest the death penalty:D:D

Just shoot em on site for hiring illegals and save a whole bunch of agony

I did not watch the video because I block them in my browser, but I read the article. I find this to be an interesting phenomenon where reporters now believe they can just contradict the President while he is making a statement to the press.

How did it become a "conversation" where the reporters participate and offer their personal/political viewpoints in real time? Isn't it their job to just report the news, not make it?

Yes, the press can fact check. That's their job. No, the press can't contradict the President to his face and then leave in a huff(inton post) to claim moral victory. That's not their job.

This is the problem Acosta has. Apparently Reid has the same affliction.

As for the substance; didn't those pictures of "children in cages" in 2014 come from the Obama era? How was that not "family separation"?

Mein Führer!

Timmeh is having a bad winter. 2019 isn't looking much better for him.

Looks that way. It's just astonishing to imply the President ought to be treated as infallible during press statements and questions, no matter the lie.

It's not "astonishing" it's a remarkable lack of courtesy and professionalism on the part of the press corp.

Trump can lie all he wants. The job of the press is to REPORT IT, not challenge him over it. But hey, go pat yourself on the back, Reid showed him. Right?

I'd predict that after the first couple of CEOs went to prison, demand for illegal labor would dry up and so would the caravans.

Your understanding is flawed. Mexico is not a safe third country for asylum seekers. Google “safe third country.”
