Stomach Stapling. Yes, No, Maybe?

Re: An employee

It sounds like clinical obesity runs in the women in Sunstruck's family, so it's likely psychological, perhaps pointing to a history of abuse.

I hope your relative gets through the operation safely and that the women in your family are able to deal with their issues.

I applaud your courage in meeting this obviously painful issue head-on.

Lance.

Nice try Lance, but hereditary obesity (which does run in my mother's family to some extent) is genetic. You know that.

You're getting desperate to find ways to upset me aren't you? LOL Not going to happen.

Inherited traits are due to abuse? That's a new one on me, I hope someone's informed the geneticists they've been barking up the wrong tree with this whole DNA nonsenese ...

Even for you Lance that's pretty twisted logic.

Are you talking about DNA that maybe likes to have a few beers and then come home and rough up the family?

Obesity in families is sometimes behavioral, sometimes genetic, sometimes both.

If it's genetic in your family, there are drugs now on the market to deal with genetic obesity.

Because your relative is undergoing what the medical establishment considers the "last hope" treatment...stomach stapling...I assumed, obviously improperly, that your families challenges were more behavioral than genetic.

Either way, it's a significant risk for your cousin and combined with diabetes a serious health risk to the women in your family.

I wish you well.

I totally fucked up with that post because I thought no one would notice the obsurdity of my statement and focus on the shit I made up about sunstruck again. My bad. I'll play nice now so not to get my ass flamed AGAIN.

This is something i know a little bit about. My mom had this done about 6yrs ago. She lost alot of weight but then her stomach stretched back out again. So she had the stomach band done. Which did seem to work better, thats where they put something like a rubber band around the stomach. She lost a lot of weight on that as well. None of them are full proof. You have to do as the doctor suggest. And keep to what he says. Now my moms friend that had the procedure done the first time with her lost tons of weight and to this day has kept it off.

So i guess the advice i would suggest is to tell your cousin to do as her doctor says, and she will have no problems.

Hope this helps

I could use a vacation - I should have gone into genetics :(

[edited to add: my resolution to cut back on thread-hijacking is a complete failure so far - come to think of it, the rest of my family are loudmouths too - I wonder if I've got one of these hereditary abuse things...]

Considering the percentage of people in this country with weight issues one would think such a miracle drug would be on the news, in the papers - front page even!

Lance must be a super cool "in the know" kind of guy to have such knowledge. I mean, it's either that or he's talking out of his ass. And that doesn't seem likely now does it?

(and now he'll whack of fericiously while rearanging my quote and thinking that means he got the better of me)
