Stolen Stories - with a Twist

Here's something I found interesting. I googled to see if any other sites were plagiarizing my stories from here. I found one of my stories on another site. Finally someone thinks I'm worth ripping off!

But here's what I found interesting (besides the fact that they stole my lowest-scoring story): They not only left off my name and changed the story's title, they changed the names of the main characters (to decidedly non-American names). Yet they clearly didn't go to the trouble of proofreading it: while I got no byline, my screen name appears twice in the text - once a playful self-reference in my original story, and once (ironically) as a copyright notice they apparently picked up while sloppily copy-and-pasting from Literotica.

Has anyone seen this before? What's up with the name-changes?

The name change shows they're trying to hide that they're stealing it. Also gives it the illusion its a different story or they could say it was theirs not yours.

This is someone who is trying to put more effort into stealing than the average site. Many sites steal stories using "bots" which is why sometimes only part of the story will show or the authors name is left there.

This seems as if a real person went through it. An industrious D-bag.

But this person didn't notice that he left a copyright notice in the middle of the text (right where the 2nd Lit page began)? And what's up with these foreign names?

Oh! And here's the same story, with the same name-changes, on a car forum?? (The story having nothing to do with cars.)

Warning: a whole lot of ads, extra browser pages, etc. open up if you follow that link.

The more I look, the more I find my least popular story on Lit is my most popular for Plagiarism.

It's here, where at least they left my byline, but cut it off after the first Lit page.

And it's here.

And all these places!!

You should be sure to PM Laurel about this.

Actually from what I've heard Manu is more the one to handle this. But again its hard because he has to contact the site and file some type of form and it is a form per story so if there's a bunch of lit stories up there is can go forever and they steal more daily.

I've heard in the past he has managed to get sites like that shut down, but 3 more pop up the next day.

To repeat what many have said here many times when you put your work up here you are essentially giving it away.

In that case, it's a good thing I only have my poems here.
