I love writting, am I any good though? I dunno. I have a female friend who loves my stories, my wife lives them but, I dunno. My friend thinks I should step outside my box, write about something I have no experience in, gay love between two guys. I was thinking a 3-some type situation with a girl and two guys. I just need some advise, since I am nit gay, how do you think the experience should be written? I am kind of at a writters block here just looking for some advise, thanks.

Stepping outside the box does have potential for reward through enhanced personal growth (as far as writing goes), but it also has potential for backlash...

You've heard "write what you know," right?

People can tell when you don't.

You're taking a good step by researching a little before you write something just based on...I don't know, hearsay. But at the same time...a person shouldn't force it if it really doesn't come more naturally (or if it comes with some additional learning).

So...how do you feel about it? Other than just being "not gay," and your friend says you should, why do you want to write this story?

That might give you some ideas on "how it should be done."

Stand warned that Lit isn't the best place to post a bi-male story.

If you post it in Group Sex, people will scream bloody murder about "gay stuff". Adding a warning note at the top will turn some of those away before they low vote you and leave a nasty comment. ( note, I said "some" )

If you post it in Gay Male, you're likely to have people throwing a fit about a woman being in there ( though not nearly as badly as if you include a male in a story in Lesbian Sex )

If it somehow fits in any other category, you're likely to receive the same vitriol about "gay stuff" as in group. Some categories like Novels and Novellas, Non-Human, and Sci-Fi&Fantasy are far more forgiving ( especially when warned at the beginning with an author's note ) but even there, bi-male takes a knock. At the very least, it will get far fewer reads and votes than the average story.

I'll let others comment on tips for writing outside the box. Just thought I'd warn you that the story idea you're leaning toward may very well get your head chopped off by the unsavory element of Lit story commenters as soon as you step outside *laugh*

If that doesn't bother you, then you're good to go. Put it in Group Sex with a warning that there's no buffer zone between the male characters.

Writing outside the box, or of what you are familiar with already, takes research into the genre to gain an understanding of the subject matter better. As mentioned, readers will hate the story if it shows ignorance of what you're writing about.
I have written a few Lesbian stories and have a following by several who feel I capture the essence of a female's POV and how two women would interact together. Plausibility is essential for realism and understanding the story.
Watch RL and see how people interact in those genres. Just make sure emotion is portrayed as the main catalyst for actions.

Agree with Dark. There's no comfortable category on Lit. for MMF.

The only place I received an accepting audience was in NonCon/Reluct. If hetro males see it as against his will, it's not perceived as a mutual gay interaction and easier to introduce. I gave the genre a try with, The Surprise Party and let a bi-male have his way with the All American jock when he's tied up by his ex girlfriend and several others.

First of all, you're cracking me up by talking about "stepping away from the box" by writing about MM sex!

Double entendre, much? :D

Next, if you MUST, write a gay males(s) sex story. You at least are familiar with the "plumbing" and, as SR71FAKER has proven, you obviously don't need to know much about the subject to do it ('course he's not just a FICTION writer, but also a super secret spy, super secret jet pilot and super secret diplomat, so he might have some super secrets you don't).

Lastly, if you INSIST on embarrassing yourself by writing a lesbian story, DO NOT include any dicks in it! As has been so rightly pointed out, we do NOT like chocolate in our peanut butter OR dicks in our FF porn!

In response to your final comment, I am guilty of ruining a great Lesbian story, by adding a boy toy in the third chapter. Even though my characters were clearly hetero in the beginning, over the course of the story, they become lovers and dicks were just for fun. As much as I tried to portray them as lesbians just having fun, it upset one faction of readers like yourself, while another enjoyed it. To each their own in that regard I guess. In Search of the Big O, did great in the scoring for one and two, but never quite made it to getting an H for the third. Mostly the first two only get faved as well.

Well, "DUH" dude! What part of "lesbian" confused you? :D

Oh, and just so you know... "lesbians" who use "dicks for fun" are called freakin BISEXUALS! Being lesbian means you don't do, wanna know more about then necessary or even want to THINK about dicks. (and certainly not when we're trying to get into a story).

BTW, I'm betting that the "chicks" that WERE okay with chapter 3 were either some of them "bisexual lesbians" or guys.

In answer to SR71Fakers proposed question:

My experience writing here on Lit is exactly the same amount of experience SR has with telling the truth = NONE!

Get it straight, Pilot is not a super secret anything. He tells the entire world about his phony exploits. Real "secret" anythings keep it secret.

And have you seen Pilot's story scores? He proves the opposite of what you say, you do need to know what you're writing about in GM. he obviously does not as those sad scores attest to.

BTW this is where he blames you and I and everyone else for trolling his stories.

This is why I no longer let readers get involved with my stories. Because of Ch 3, I didn't want to finish it and left it incomplete. It was the requests that came in to involve a guy that way, seeing as the younger woman wanted to know how to really fuck a guy in the first place. I had intended for it to go full lesbian and have them become a married couple. It was female readers who requested, but what their flavour is, I have no idea.

Anyway, J_J_, welcome to Lit. and to the forum. I believe I gave an appropriately experienced response to your question. As you can see, it can be a real snake pit around here--but I'm sure you can check up on who writes what and how well and who is trashing whose stories on your own. ;)

I wouldn't blame you if you decided that MMF wasn't even a comfortable topic on the forum :D

Here's a free plot bunny.
A woman is treated to a fantasy of two men at once, by her husband and really gets off on it. Unknown to her, the guys got off feeling their cocks sliding against one another inside her during DP. An unlikely relationship begins between them, as they continue to meet and fuck together. The guys aren't really gay, in the sense they want to be together without her, but they really get off being together inside her or sucked off together by her.

Not a real MMF scenario, but it smacks well of it.;)

Sorry, but that's MMF by definition. And the guys aren't just straight in the situation, either. They are at least bi if they can "get it off" together with her.

I suggest to the proprietors that they add to the submissions page a "cigarette pack" warning: Post at Your Own Risk--Here Be Trolls.

That said, you gotta do what you gotta do. If you are writing the story because you have to write it, and post it because you have to tell the story your way, regardless, then do as Nike says--Just Do It. Then put on your Kevlar helmet and body armor, and stand by. Incoming!

I wouldn't consider myself Bi in the least, but I found it interesting to do a DP and feel the other guy right up against me. With both of us doing her vaginally, it was a bit more than I was expecting to do, but she was requesting it and I was obliging. My GF thought it was an incredible turn on and got DP'd next, after a break of course, lol.
A lot of fun things happen at swinger parties. ;)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you were hard and found it "interesting" in that situation, you're bi. In typical denial, however.

Dicey, personally I take your side (hate to admit it but I will). A little too close contact for me.

I feel even more so about a woman having to cocks in her mouth at once. If your fine with your cock rubbing against another even in those circumstances, you got tendencies.

Any threesome I was involved in was a "you stay on your end I stay on mine" deal.

But I think many will disagree, there are tons of DP porn and no one seems to consider the guys gay and you know damn well they can feel the cock through that thin layer of skin.

You know I called a used car lot a few years ago to buy a car. The salesman I talked to was a pompous ass and SERIOUSLY full of shit who told me he had just the car I was looking for.

When I went to look at the car he showed me this sorry pile of crap. The paint was dull, the interior smelled stale and, when I tried to get it going, the battery was so dead it only whimpered once, then died!

When I got out, the full of shit salesman came bounding up and I told him, this is an old, ugly, boring piece of junk!

His response was that it wasn't old, it was "appropriately experienced"!

******

Now, this story isn't real, but the characters sure are! The part of the full of shit sales person who simply makes shit up is SR71PLT and the boring, stale car is his stories.

Writing something you have no experience in is harder work, but not impossible. If you're not comfortable, not enthused or worst, if you're writing a story cause you feel like you ought to, you probably shouldn't. Write what you want to and you'll find it comes a heck of a lot easier.

That being said, it can be a lot of fun broadening your horizons. If you do want to branch out, I'd first recommend a lot of research, by reading the category through and through. Then I'd recommend getting a beta-reader who's familiar with the situation to give your story the once over before you hit submit; it'll help you polish the rough edges off and will save you from any embarrassing mistakes.

If you want to improve generally, it's always a good idea to step into the Story Discussion Circle forum. You can learn a heck of a lot by reading how other people's work is critiqued and if you can get your story. If you read these rules here you also can get your story critiqued from all sides, which is not for the faint hearted, but will really help you learn where you're going wrong and how your story can grow.

PS. Is the bickering really necessary in a thread where a newbie is asking for advice? I doubt it helps him much to see people scoring points off each other?

Interesting means it was a different feeling I would never have experienced, except in this situation. I never said I got off on it, but at the same time, I'm comfortable enough in my own skin to know where my bounderies lie. I was hard because my GF sucked me and stroked me well, before she shoved me in the pther woman's pussy, next to her husband.
Typically, I deny nothing.

Ummm, OK. wink, wink.

SR, quit projecting your own uncertainties (and inadequacies) onto other people. The dude says he's not gay or Bi. That's the deal then, unless you are now some sort of super secret psychic now too (on top of all of your other bullshit).
