I think we should be better at capturing these things. That first one was from a "private Chinese company". We should have contacted them and asked them to stop by and pick it up. Instead we have eliminated the working value of whatever it was only after allowing it to collect or deploy. And make all the orangutan jokes you want. So far no one has even requested a comment from the FAA. If they were drones, which in effect the were, it is the FAA that would be notifying the GOV / Military of the threat. There are explicit limitations [Requirements] to what and where you can fly pretty much anything in this country. Easier to find if you buy a drone and want to fly above 500 feet within 5 miles of an airport.

The Gov reaction at this point is using the media to cover it up. Even Blinken is back on his consession session with the Chinese. On the weekend with very little coverage. I was flipping channels and noticed CNN trying to justify the ass kissing mission.

It's understandable that there will be areas of governing where the progress of technology and resultant activity get ahead of government attention and response. This is one of them, quite understandable after four years of a "just do nothing about anything like that administration" and a Republican Party that continues to stonewall government activity on much of anything.

After all that has eventually been revealed on this, an "at attention" government, I think, would have shot the Chinese balloon down as it initially entered Alaskan airspace and wouldn't be willy-nilly shooting other things out of the sky now without knowing what they are. It has to play catch up on this, but if government is permitted to do the things that we need a federal government to be doing, I'm confident that the current administration will address the issue.

The Republicans can legitimately be called out on this. You can't have it both ways. You can't both criticize the federal government for not being on top of everything and, at the same time, do everything you can--including support a coup attempt--to prevent the federal government from functioning.
