I've been waiting for the explanation of why this was first identified over Montana, with reports now saying it was seen before entering U.S. airspace in Alaska. An important issue then, as some have noted, is why it was permitted to enter U.S. airspace at all if it had been tracked for some time. That seems to be possible failure that needs to be addressed. If it was deemed best to most safely take it down over water, depending on how long they had it under surveillance, it could have been taken down in the Pacific as well as in the Atlantic. A balloon can be weaponized.

It's an indication that they are tightening up surveillance and response.

The answer to any Republican talking points, although the board Trumpettes will pretend not to notice, is that this didn't start in the Biden administration and thus the response this time is, yes, more the result of Republican backbiting wherever/whenever it can (largely because the criticism pickings are so much less with the Biden administration than what was on offer in the Trump administration--when balloons were going over us then too) than anything else.

Whatever on this, pulling such balloons down on the entry side rather than the exit side seems obviously to be the better idea. Not getting into a tit-for-tat war over this, though, is by far best, because we have a whole hell of a lot of surveillance stuff floating around up there than any other nation does.

• They provided proof to some isolationist “Americans” that there are continuous threats from foreign adversaries that they cannot protect themselves from by hiding in their basement and holding their loved ones (their guns) close.

• They had the opportunity to study the Chinese spy balloon technology in flight and judge its capabilities.

• They now have the balloon’s corpse to perform a technological autopsy on.

The US, etc has obviously gotten better at detecting these spy balloons since the corrupt orange traitor’s administration completely FAILED to detect them. - THANKS PRESIDENT BIDEN!!!
