I think all the above points about erotica/romance/porn are really interesting. To me, I find romance to be the feelings devoid of sex. Porn to be the sex devoid of feeling and erotica to be the mixture of the two. All three are interesting sides of the human condition and I think a story can be told that is interesting on all fronts.
As a man with a classical education, I was brought up with a lot of the 'classical' romances, i.e. Pride and Prejudice, and as a younger man found them to be terrible. As an older man, I find that I enjoy the interconnection of the characters, even if it's not 'manly' to do so.
Also, as a man, I don't think I need to go into detail about the porn side of things... =)
