I didn't know this about you. I can't imagine not having my dad around when growing up. Sure, he was off at meetings, off at playing golf, off at work, off at several other things that made it seem like he wasn't always there, but it was a "Cats in the Cradle" kind of relationship.

From what I can tell, you turned out OK, though.

Well, except for the panty collection, the body modifications and the strange eyebrows on that picture in your AV. But, who's judging? You're OK in my book. :cool:

I was adopted at birth. My adopted folks turned out to be full time alcoholics, he pass when I was a freshman in high school, she passes some years later, both of liver failure.

30 years ago, long after the adoptive parents had passed, I requested my adoption file from the State. Turns out mom was 16 when she became pregnant at a party that included "some college guys" "after having one drink" "and not remembering anything that followed".

I have info about her linage. I filed with several adoptive reunification services to no avail. I do not yearn to connect with mom, but am open to it. I have several stories in my mind about how I was conceived and understand that she might not desire a connection. If still alive she would be 82. Chances are slim that we should ever meet.

It always has bothered me that I have no info about the dude who fathered me. I would at least like to know something about his contribution to my genetic stew. I have done some DNA profiling for his background. It appears my male line migrated into northern Europe about 10,000 years ago through Afghanistan. :rolleyes:

I got an email Friday, that I read on Fathers Day, from the DNA company telling me they have narrowed my paternal DNA to only about 480 possible family trees in their files. For more $$$$ they might be able to narrow the possible pool.

I read that email after spending 5 hours at the hospital assisting an 18 year old girl with a rape kit following a party with some "collage guys" and "some drinking" and not being able to remember parts of the early morning during the rape and fear of pregnancy was real for her. In the last 5 years doing this work her case must have been about #50 for me with this sort of story.

Needless to say I was a bit cranky and in hind sight this thread, though therapeutic, might not have been the best place to express.

Support is no big deal, but there's no need for acceptance. The way I see it, we're all products of some sweaty sex act. Who can say what thoughts were in the minds of the two people involved? I like to think my folks were doing it doggie style, because that's really the only position I care much about. But because the 50s were kind of naive, I wonder if they even knew much about it.

I've got a friend I've known for about 50 years. He and his sister were both adopted. He knows nothing about his real parents. His sister died of breast cancer about 10 years ago, and he has a bad heart. It would have been nice to know a little about their DNA, but it just isn't in the cards.

That DNA stuff is so expensive, it really seems like a scam. They dangle answers in front of you like a carrot, with large sums of money as payment. Lives are bargained against that payment. It really sucks. Some things really should be regulated, because the outcome can tell so much about potential health risks.

It has become even more important with us boomers living longer than congress and social security wants us to. We were paying into the system and giving congress a cash cow to tap into. Now, we're sucking it all back out and their IOUs are looking pretty suspect. We're old enough we will get our share as long as the economy keeps enough people employed to keep feeding the pool. But, those feeding the pool?

You have to understand...you might not be here, if your mother hadn't gone to that party. DNA or not, that's got to be a plus.

So, do you think your father gave you the body modification gene or the urge to collect panties? He wasn't all bad, then.;)

He might have. I always handed that to the upbringing in the Catholic church. But it might indeed be more nature than nurture. More stuff to ponder...

I worked at a Women's Center for about a year. It made me really appreciate the people who work with rape victims, it's a difficult job to do. Respect to you.
