"Vampire" vs. "Vampyre": I prefer the first one, but can't really justify it.

It's because the second has the word "pyre" in it. So you think the Vamp is going to go up in flames

Perhaps. If the cultural background of the story is such that the second spelling would make sense, that is, someplace foreign or out of time, or meant to convey that feeling, then the second one's fine. But, please, Joe Bob from the cornfields of Illinois should say vampire, rhymes with campfire.

im working on a story, and i was curious about how you all prefer to spell certain things

magic or magick

demon or daemon

vampire or vampyre

for the record, i prefer the old style spellings personally, but i was curious.

Magic, demon, vampire. That other stuff just looks weird to me.

In these instances, I prefer the standard spellings. However, there are many other words that I prefer the more antiquated spellings of.
