brat,

I adopted Christiaan in europe when he was 11 yrs old,he is a French/German mix.Anyway..Archburgers syndrome is a form of autism where learning the most basic social skills is an uphill battle,I have spent many yrs teaching him how to act and make desisions, with Archburgers he matures at a very slow rate, biologicaly he is 23 now,mentally..well that can be debateable at times...but 15 would be about right for right now,I am sure you have had it rough with a special needs child cat,all I can say is...hang in there.

my sister has downs syndrome and she has been involved with the special olymics 5-pin bowling for 2 years now.

we also had her on our bowling team this past year.

she is 36 yrs old. As you have mentioned, there are many "kids" there of all ages. They also have basketball and 10-pin bowling as well.

someone who went to the same school as i did got a couple of bronzes in Australia in the wheelchair races..

Special Olympics is a wonderful organization. Several kids from my son's school are in SO & we used to go to their events. Congratulations on her making the team.

My company has donated money to it... And I have done some vol. work for them.

I meant to reply to this earlier.

Those who volunteer to coach sports teams tend to be good people. Those who volunteer to work with the athletes in Special Olympics are truly amazing.

I once went to help a guy that worked with my mum set up some drills for his Special Olympics floor hockey team to practice. I left that place a changed person. I was in absolute awe of his ability and their enthusiam. What impressed me most was the absolute and pure joy that it gave them, even when I could see they were having difficulty. The coaches patience, compassion and understanding was nothing short of phenomanal and its something I think about when i'm ready to flip at my "elite" hockey players.

If you ever get a chance to attend a Special Olympics event, do it. You'll come away inspired.
