Spank me. Please?

I'm typically not into BDSM, but this was both moving and extremely well done.

If Lesley Ann Warren was the one to be spanked, I'd have been over this in the 80's.

Or even that irritating wife from Judging Amy, I could get into it. :D

Indeed, an excellent film. Certainly very popular amongst the kink crowd.

Having watched it for the first time today, it's easily one of my favorites.

Favourites in what genre??

Seriously, I loved the emotional intensity along with the quirky humour.

(Note to self, must watch my copy again soon!!)

What did you like about it?

Any genre. I admire fearlessness in moviemaking, and fearless this movie was.

For Hollywood, it was outandingly fearless. Well done to Tinsel Town on this one.

Really? I saw the box in the DVD shop and thought it looked like cheap titillation wrapped in a gossamer-thin plot from the blurb on the back. Is it really a decent film?

Perhaps not for everyone, but I enjoyed it immensely.

one of my favs... I love Maggie Gyllenhaal in anything... but in this!!! oh man...

it's loosely based on a short story that I read years ago... they hollywoodized and mainstreamed it quite a bit... but even so, it's a lovely story... and hot!! :D

It's an excellent film: production values all over the place. Good script, plot, character development - the whole nine yards. Maggie Gyllenhall & James Spader are both excellent actors, and they did themselves proud here.

And it's a nice little peek into the ideas of BDSM and why someone might be interested in them. (It somehow just doesn't sound quite right to say "a slice of BDSM life" :)

I was a little disappointed in the denouement, which seemed kind of dream-romancey over the top for me, but I can't think of any other way the story climax could go that I like better.

Hollywood did package and promote this as a "Cheap Titillation" film, rather than the Art House film that it is, which IMO was a profound disservice to it.

interestingly enough, I just bought this and haven't watched it yet...

I agree. I like both the leads. Spader is also great in Boston Legal with the awesome William Shatner!
