Apollo 11, 12, and 14 all had tiny quarantine vehicles, Mobile quarantine facilities, where the teams had to live for three weeks, to stop them bringing back anything viral or the like, from the moon.

Exhausted, cramped environment, coming down from high stress and heavy adrenaline. Tis ripe for a tale or three.

always a story for anyone, there been both male and female and no space pardon the bun so both sexs must share the quarantine

Now imagine coming up and back not from a barren moon, but from xenobiology expedition to another star system with serious alien biology. FTL may be a must, and staple, but who's going to let them down to surface on Earth or even back onboard the jump capable capital ships? A tiny orbital facility in orbit of the alien planet would likely be the first step. Restricted to that for months at a time, likely.

Doesn't have to be such an extreme scenario (which many readers would expect you to support. Space travel is certainly a Chekov's gun)

Adventure hikers/sports junkies can sneak across a border to a nature spot and get caught up in a more earthly quarantine situation.

Likely fit people getting a thrill from getting away with a forbidden experience but ulimtately getting caught/quarantined sets up easier.

Honestly, a touch more plausible b/c I can't imagine space operations leaving their human investments alone to do as they please.

A pissed off, corrupt foreign government is only concerned with keeping the quarantined out of the general population.

  • A shady trader/smuggler sneaking into a ‘new’ world and getting caught, either by locals or some larger force.
  • Land on an empty planet somewhere Out There, get a scrape, and the medikit locks you out of the ship controls until a quarantine period & passing a fitness test
  • Land on a a barren asteroid, poke around & find nothing, and head back out to try again. Suiting up for the next rock, you find a weird growth on your suit…

each could be with one or more crew,

I got caught up in a quarantine in the Northern Territory, and it was... Kinda like living in a caravan park for two weeks. We had a huge open area we could walk around in, it was sunny, there was a pool and some outdoor trampolines. There was even a bar that we could use (though no waiters).

On the other hand, the mobile quarantine facilities are kinda tiny.

There's room there, for both kinds of tales. You got one you might be considering?

Not where it is the main thrust, no.

Just offered it up as an easier alternative if someone wanted to dash off an easier piece in the same theme.

In the developed world, detention is frowned upon by an individualistic society.

Outside world on the whole though? Plenty of very real scenarios exist.
