Hey, can you hillbilly mofo's get together and work on a single name that tries to absolve the south from guilt over their pro-slavery stance.

I mean The War of Northern Agression/The war for Southern Independence/ The war when them uppity yankees took away our darkies whatever. Just pick one and stick with it.

Southern girls know how to say "Darl'n" in four different "languages"....

1)the sarcastic & bitter--"Now, Darl'n"

2) the soothing--"Now, Darl'n"

3) the romatic--"Now Darl'n"

4) the throw me on the bed & fuck me hard--"NOW DARL'N"

If you're southern, you can "hear" what I mean. If you've ever known a southern girl, you should remember it. And if you've never known a southern girl...you don't know what you're missing, darl'n!

words and music by Cheap Trick (and yes its my favorite song by them)

They know how to say "Well, isn't that lovely?" and leave you wondering just what the question really means.

My dear southern mama taught me that "Isn't that lovely?" is the proper southern girl's way to say something nice when you're really thinking.."Who gives a shit?" I use it all the time, and folksI know in california don't have a clue what it means.

So You Want to Know All About Belles??

Belles aren't for the Faint of Heart. We are Strong, Bold Women all Dressed up like Pink Cotton Candy.

Most Belles are born and live in the South. But, of course we are well traveled and alas some Belles must live outside the South. Just remember being Southern is in the blood not in the location.

A Southern Belle never...

Curses beyond -- Dad-gum-it and Fiddle Dee Dee.

Appears to chase a man.... She chases him until he catches her. *dimpled smile*
Dream of wearing white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

Let a gentleman know what she is thinking. If she suspects he may know what she's thinking she must then change her mind.

Take out the trash, mow the lawn or change the oil in the car. Belles simply do not acknowledge these chores exist.

A Southern Belle would never dream of doing something today that she could think about tomorrow.

Now isn't that lovely? :D Thank you, LoveToGiveRoses!

I think Atlanta must be added to the list of cities with Southern Charm

and drinking ice tea on the front porch is certainly a summer afternoon delight ;)

This is a tribute to Southern Ladies....

Yeah, like calling it "The war of northern aggression" isn't ipso facto a political statement. Stop pissing on my cornflakes.

I'm a southern girl who hates the use of "War of Northern Aggression." Sickens me, absolutely sickens me.

Well, see my first post on this thread. But that's beside the point. Calling it anything other than The American Civil war is by and large a political statement so don't get all whiney when I respond in kind.

The south seems to fire up emotions.

There seems to be more emphasis on romance and "polite" society here in the south. The postings are great, they're very interesting. Now I know why southern Gentlemen love the ladies of the south. For y'all that are in other parts of the country, you're very lovely too, but you ought to consider a visit to the land of romance, magnolias and tea sippin' on the front porch.

I live in Virginia, but have lived in other parts of the south too. I miss sittin on the back porch surrounded by towering live oaks with yards of silky grey spanish moss hanging down. Does this (picture) hit home with anyone? Afternoon tea with the sun setting quietly across the way is a sweet memory from home.

beautiful images of the south coming to mind.. don't forget the double swing on the back porch, in the moonlight on a hot summer night....ahhhhh

Bejo....

SOUTHERN California isn't all that bad either. Try visiting Laguna to watch the sunset from Los Brisas (up on the top of the hill to the right of the town center). It's not got live oaks and spanish moss, but it's got a beautiful rose garden, a rugged rocky shoreline, a very well kept garden and path, and great marguaritas. In the spring and summer the abundant Jasmine perfumes the air and the sound of waves crashing into the rocks keeps you mindful of the powers of nature.

There's also

The Huntington Library is a good place to visit if you every get homesick. It's both a library and a garden. It is a garden oasis in the middle of the city (all SoCal's a city). There are open vista's, wide green expanses of grass with well planted borders of familiar evergreens (we have lots of evergreens in the south). You can even find a quiet spot to sit and listen to the birds. The "House" is like a grand old southern mansion which may lend to the feelings of familiarity for a sojourning southerner.

oh, don't get me wrong..I moved from one beautiful place to another..so cal is wonderful..I live in LaJolla, right on the coast.we have spectacular sunsets here. It's absolutely great all year. The ocean is the most perfect shade of blue right now. I must say, the first time I saw the Pacific, it was like seeing an ocean for the first time. So, since I've enjoyed the best of both coasts...I'll combine them..i'll take the mosses, magnolias, and even the pines over the palm trees, but I'll take sunsets on the pacific anytime.

La Jolla is great too. I love the little restaurents along the main street that tower so high above the ocean providing a spectacular view.

Have you been there long?

Have you visited the Rose Garden in exposition park? It's sometimes dificult to find. It's a great place to be come June.

Yummmy lives in SD too, I've told her before that one of my favorite things is to run downtown SD in the early morning at dawn.

Downtown LaJolla is is great..love the fountain.. the cove is a beautiful romantic spot. Ever gone down indoor stairs to the platform built into the rocks? Its superb. The waves crash into cove, it's like being enveloped inside the ocean.
I've only been here for almost two years, still lots of things to discover. Yes, if I had to leave the beauty of the south, there aren't too many places better than SD to land in.

San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, the world for that matter. It seems to be always springtime there. In La Jolla, you choose a particularly great spot too.

Venture up to Laguna one of these days. There's a little theater there that's worth the trip. Call ahead and get tickets... see anything. They have local actors, not one of these large off Broadway traveling circuses. It's a small intimate theater and the work done there is excellent. Lots of the restaurents up the street (on Main Street and along PCH) have "theater specials" where you can get a quick meal at a good price before the shows start.

The Garden Grove Shakespeare theater is worth a trip too, but a two hour drive after one of the shows might be a bit much. They have an open air theater and run summer stock of Shakespeare plays and other things as well. Go a couple hours before and take a picnic (wine is allowed). They have wide grounds and some of the players who aren't performing that night will come out and entertain the picnicers with poems, ballads and short skits from 16th century England.

In praise of southern girls

Are you dreaming of spring yet... it's just around the corner. What are your favorite things to do in the south come springtime?
