The error messages for an avatar aren't the best I've ever seen.

First, right click on the picture you want to use and select properties and check the files size. if it is more than 20480 bytes (20K) then it's too big to be an avatar. If you'r enot using Windows, then do whatever your operating system requires to determine the file size.

Second, open the picture in an imaging processing program, and change the display units to Pixels -- an avatar cannot be more than 150 pixels in it's largest dimension.

If neither of those conditions problems is the problem, e-mail me and I'll give you my e-mail address so you can send me the picture to fix.

Sounds like it's corrupted then. Do you have another copy, or can you find it again on the web?

An update for those interested:

The pictures were in ART fromat which is a new format exclusive to AOL. You can download ART image support for IE5 and open this format in Explorer, Right-click and Save as BMP to make them usable in other image processing programs.
