Just arrived in Beijing. The hotel wifi lets me access Lit and Reddit, but not Facebook or Google, including my Gmail.

Is this a China thing or a local screwup? I know they're weird about the Internet, but how weird exactly?

I knew about google, that's a huge no-no there as you can like find and learn stuff not Chinese related. Can you get to yahoo or bing?

Bing works. Pain in the arse to use though on an Android device. Biggest problem is my work email is on Google Apps. Eh well, good excuse to not reply to people.

I can't acces Gmail from a browser, but Gmail alers works on my phone, and once they pop up there I can read them. I can't manually refresh the inbox though.

Heh, if they want to block things, they're not doing a very solid job at it.

YouTube is blocked.. as is Pirate Bay which I find amusing given that nearly any product in the world one can find a pirated copy of it..

Good thing Wikipedia isn't completely blocked in China, because after all, if we each gave $3 the fundraiser would be over in an hour, and there are lots of people in China.
