A song thread from ohiobbw! Aren't you suprised? :D

I'm looking for songs to workout to. Two different types -

1 - slow soothing sounds to do yoga and stuff like that to.
2 - hard fast songs to kick and punch to.

So, any suggestions?

You mean workout as in exercise, right?

Yipes!

Hobbles away.

1) Enya
2) check out Fast Dance CD's or so... I usually work out to Mary J. Blidge's "Family Affair" being the first one, because it is fast but not too fast

For punching and hitting, may I suggest Pat Bentar?
You're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts like the one in me
That's okay let's see how you do it
Put up you dukes let's get down to it
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You come on with a come on
You don't fight fair
That's okay see if I care
Knock me down it's all in vain
I get right back on my feet again
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
You're a real tough cookie with a long history
Of breaking little hearts like the one in me
Before I put another notch in my lipstick case
You better make sure you put me in my place
Hit me with your best shot
C'mon
Hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away
Hit me with your best shot
Why don't you hit me with your best shot
Hit me with your best shot
Fire away

For mellow Yoga, perhaps New Age music, or Indian music. Have you ever done Yoga/stretching to Nature sounds? Environments music lets you hear ocean/rainforest/wind/aviary sounds on one CD.
:D

For Yoga, I recommend Angelo Badalamenti scores. (He writes for all David Lynch's movies). The all instrumental soundtrack from "Twin Peaks" is a good one. Or Julee Cruise (for whom Badalamenti also writes the music.) Also, David Lanz's piano solos work well.

For fast-paced, I like old techno--Shamen, Lords of Acid, that kind of thing. Also, Madonna's first album, with all that bouncy bubble-gum pop like "Lucky Star" work for me. ;)

Yoga and such...I'd have to agree with the Enya suggestion, although I prefer more "fitting" music often times, such as soothing bamboo flute music, or music with an Indian flavor to it (Eastern indian, not NA Indian, FYI :)).

For harder workout? The latest genre of heavy music usually has a pretty decent beat to it (Linkin Park, Nickelback, etc...) but I still prefer good techno! LoA, Prodigy (I know, kinda techno, kinda not), Teisto, etc...but my all-time fave music to run really hard to is Crystal Method. They kick ass! Gooooood stuuuuuuffff :)

For the yoga and stuff, try "Moments Of Love" by the Art of Noise. It's a 20 minute soft jazz song. You wouldn't imagine such a beautiful song from this group because they were a one hit wonder band. (I can't remember the song but I still remember the weird video that played constantly on MTV.)

As far as fast songs, I highly recommend C & C Music Factory ("Gonna Make You Sweat", "Things That Make You Go Hmmm", etc.). I cannot do my cardivascular workout without it.

Other possible workout music is the many songs by Janet Jackson.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm checking them out right now.

And also bump for more! :D

Risia...
I thought I was the only one who appreciates David Lynch!
I agree, Angelo Badalamenti does some awesome music...I especially like the music from "Lost Highway".
That is great.

For yoga, I like Loreena Mckennitt and anything eastern Indian...like Rafi or Ravi Shankar.

Hmm... for the yoga I would try some Celtic music. As for the faster stuff, I'd go for a techno/trance artist called Trance[]Control, VNV Nation or even a group called Apoptygma Berzerk. I'd also use the CD compilation called Pulse. There's lots of good dance tracks.

I usually throw on Fear Factory's Remanufacture cd it has remixed songs from their demanufacture cd but donw with alot of techno, drum and bass type backgrounds with that fast speed metal sound backing it up, or try Static X. Prodigy is always good.

As far as slow music goes when I want to relax I'll throw on Amnesiac, or Kid A from Radiohead. Another good album is the Fight Club Score which is done very smoothly by the Dust brothers AKA The Chemical Brothers.:D

hmmmm

Lets see. Back when I was into weightlifting and serious exercise I would throw on something like Rob Zombie or Pantera to just get pumped up quick. As far as something to do some light jogging or whatever I would go for John Mellencamp or something moderate like that. Just a few of my suggestions. I need to get off my lazy butt and get back in the swing of things anyway. Good luck. later.:)

Ya, the kind of music I like is what you can kick and punch too. Like Rob Zombie or Disturbed or Papa Roach. Heck, Korn and maybe even Linkin Park can make some good kick and punch songs as well.

For the slow pace, try listening to Pink Floyd's Echoes (20+ min long) and Shine On You Crazy Diamond - they may be a bit too intense, though.

For the upbeat, try White Zombie - off of Astro Creep 2000, the tunes Electric Head part 1 and 2, and Rel Solution #9
Metallica - Into the Fire
Megadeth - Crush 'Em, Sweating Bullets, Peace Sells, and Symphony of Destruction (excellent choice)
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff, and Rollin

Thanks again for the suggestions. I loved the Angelo Badalamenti scores. And I now have all of the slow songs I need!

I still need faster music though, so anymore suggestions. (Specific songs would be helpful rather than bands or singers).

:D :rose:

I dont really do yoga so I have no idea what music would work with that.

However when I DO excersise (which unfortunately isn't enough) I usually go for the old Mortal Kombat tune, Disturbed, Chemical Brothers, Limp Bizkit.
That kind of thing.
