So I found out the other day that, completely unbeknownst to me, I know all the words to a few songs. Now this isn't much of a surprise to most who know me, since I'm a music nut, but these songs just aren't normal songs.

These are strange songs. Songs I should have no good reason to remember. Songs that I find myself singing idly during the day.

Songs such as:
The Banana Boat Song
C is for Cookie (from Sesame Street)
Conjunction Junction (from Schoolhouse Rock)
Where are you Tonight (from Hee Haw)
Gloom, Despair, and Agony (ditto)
Little Bunny Foo Foo (of the Bopping Field Mice fame)

I'm hoping at some point to have an actual use for these songs.

So are any of you plagued by strange tunes? Do you know all the words to Bobby Goldsboro's "Sunny" (God Help You!)? What songs can you sing from heart that just make you cringe?

LOL!

Oh my gosh, I've been singing the Massachusetts song since Thanksgiving weekend. My nephew was working on a book report and he was questioning his spelling of that state so I sang that song to him.

I also seem to digress to the Oscar Mayer song every once in a while. That song was used many times when I taught kindergarten.

Cute thread, JazzManJim.

Thanks!

Today's song I couldn't get out of my head was "The Dreidel Song". You know the one..

"Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay...."

I swear. I'm cursed.

actualy if that is the "sunny" that i'm thinking of, it's a big phat "I WISH" that song has a certain meaning to me and i would love to know all the words to it, and with the exceptionof the hee haw song forementioned, there wasn't a song on that list that i'm sorry to know the words to , heres my "claim to lame" song list:

any thing written by fred durst in the last three years

the theme song to family ties

the jingle for juicy fruit

wesley willis! that's all i can say, if you don't know what he writes then you shall die a better man then me!

the only song previously mentioned that i havn't heard was the one by ditto, and you may be right there too.

great! now that dreidel song is in my head!

JIGGLES OR SONGS?

JIGGLES:
The old Frieto's song-"I, I, ya, yiey. Oh I am the Frieto banditto. Give me Frieto cornchips and I'll be your friend. The Frieto Banditto you must not offend."

The "Plop Plop, Fizz Fizz" Alka-Seltzer song.

and the dreaded McDonald's Big Mac song.

REAL SONGS:
Queen- "Bicycle" ("I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike") Oh yeah, alot of thought went into that song.

"Born To Be Alive" (Somebody was smoking something strong that day)

My wifw controls the bedside alarm radio 9 I don't ussally need it to wake up but this morning I needed to be up at five) and has it set to one of those sick top 40 stations. This morning I woke up to the Bee Gees, I think the song is called emotion...

and now I can't get it out of my fucking head.

How about;
B-I-N-G-O was his name-o
Wildwood flower
Uneasy rider
Fumeroo the skunk
The napalm song
:D

I know the Step By Step theme song, it was stuck in my head all yesterday.. There are a few BSB songs that I have memorized just by osmosis (You can't escape them, they're everywhere!). Other than that, my head is mostly filled with good music, although sometimes I'll get a really depressing song (Don't Speak by No Doubt for instance) stuck in my head, which sucks.

For some reason, Sinatra songs and old show tunes seem to stick in my head. And let's not forget "The theme from a summer place."

I have an extensive list of silly songs that I taught my kids when they were little.

How about "There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza" That one is really annoying and sticks in your head!

Disney songs.. Whenever I hear a Disney song it seems to permanantly burn itself into my mind and come back at the oddest times. Especially the Lion King theme. Although I do like Hakunah Matatah...

Okay I knew most of your list...and my personal confession is that I know the words to almost all of the late 80's music, but what exactly is the Little Bunny Foo Foo (of the Bopping Field Mice fame) song?

Hmmm.... well, I know all of the words from the "Chiquita Banana" song, as well as other useless, dumb songs. My friends used to make me sing it in this really weird voice (we were drunk- what can I say?) :D

Oh-that's a childhood song:

Litte Rabbit Foo Foo, walking thorugh the forest, scooping up the field mice and bopping them on the head.

Then the good fairy came, and said, "Little Rabbit Foo Foo, I don't like your attitude..."

Cute song... it ends with the moral of the story: "Hare today, gone tomorrow".

Thanks for telling me,I had not heard it before. Now I must go looking for it.

And there's More!

And you can't forget the cute hand motions that go with it. I can't sing that song without doing them!

takes a deep breath

*singing*

it's a great big universe
and we're all really puny
we're just tiny little specks
about the size of Mickey Rooney
we don't know how we got here
but we're an important part here
it's a big universe and we're not

*singing*

it's cold outside
there's no kind of atmosphere
i'm all alone, more or less
let me fly far away from here

it's fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun

i want to lie
shipwrecked and comatose
drinking fresh mango juice
goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes

it's fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun
fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun

Once again, different versions of the same song. In the version of little bunny foo-foo I know, he is turned into a goon.

I know too many of those silly childrens songs. At one point, the list for my class was 11 typed pages.

I remember the Hee Haw Songs.

Theme songs tend to stick in my brain.... The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island.

The worst is that I remember songs I dislike faster than the songs I want to remember.

For me the one that has stuck with me the most is one that has irritated me the most as well. I am a former flight attendent for Delta Airlines and my name is Dawn so I can't tell you how many passengers thought they were the cleverest thing in the world and sang that song (Delta Dawn) to me. I'd smile and tell them they were cute.

My personal favorite though is Puff the Magic Dragon. :)

Damnit, you're right. I meant to write that the moral of the story was hare today, goon tomorrow, but I had just woken up and my brain was fuzzy. :(

Try getting The Ballad of Ellie Cartwright out of your head, I hear it alot when I am here on Lit.

Jim, thanks for giving me the orwherm of Little Bunny Foo Foo.
I got it out of my head about 3 yrs ago and now I have it back.

I also remember every song that you mentioned and a few of the others too.

Songs that stick in the brain

"I'm a Little Teapot"

"Jesus Loves Me" (years and years ago rehearsing this hymn with my then 5 year old cousin for Sunday school).

"Those Were the Days" ("All in the Family")

"Born to be Wild".

"It's A Small World After All"

"Tommorrow" from "Annie"

Wonder how long it will take me now to get these all out of my head again!:p

Oh, yes, yes, yes!

How about:

They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha
The Addams Family (theme song)
Car 54 Where Are You (Theme song)
Found a Peanut
Alka Seltzer (Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz)

While we're on the subject of bad songs...

Does anyone know all of the words to "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More"?
