Song Title or Partial Lyrics in a story

I quote lyrics all the time, usually 4-8 lines right at the start, and never had a problem. You just don't want to do the whole song and go overboard

A passage from my new story, Wild Birds of Maine:

For the few who don't know it, the lyrics are from Close To You, made famous by The Carpenters, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

After taking off her shoes and her jeans, she slid into the sleeping bag. She picked up her book, but had read no more than a few sentences before she heard the saxophone.

This time, she recognized the tune immediately, and she knew the lyrics.

Why do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near

She craned her neck to peek through the narrow opening between the tent flaps. Zach was standing in the upstairs window. Although the evening was cooler, tonight, the window was open.

Just like me, they long to be, close to you

I submitted the story for publication on March 8.

The day that Burt Bacharach died.

Don't blame me.

But then what McCartney does and the integrity of the Literotica author are two different issues. I'm not all that surprised with posters who want to slide away from a look at their integrity or who so easily can let that be swept away by doing what they can get away with.
