Miserable people love to project their misery onto others and it can manifest itself in many forms. Why even go through the trouble of messaging someone to say that in the first place? Someone is just a bitter asshole and not even worthy of a response or even caring about. It's strictly up to the individual how one chooses to look at this, but I kind of laugh at this stuff. I guess in reality it's sad because this person is a sad individual. Lashing out at the world won't help his/her problems get any better. He/she should look inwardly to find a happier path in life. TL;DR, if a person has to go out of their way to insult someone for no reason, something is obviously wrong with them. You're cute anyway so it's not as if their opinion matters.
