(This first one is going to be really long. I've got a lot of background to set up.)

The setting: Charleston, South Carolina in the years following the Civil War

The plot: Following the long and horrible War Between the States (there was nothing Civil about it, after all), many formerly wealthy southern farmers and plantation owners found themselves in financial ruin. Most of their fortunes were spent supporting the Confederate Army. Any money that a plantation owner had left was Confederate Money and was worth no more than the paper it was printed on. The large farms that had depended mostly on slave labor now lay dormant--- no labor meant no crops, and no crops meant no way to survive. One by one, Charleston's former elites were forced to sell their properties to the new wealthy class in the country: the Northern and European industrialists.

James Aultman grew up in a life of privilege. In the late seventeen hundreds, his great grandfather had been one of the first men in the country to grow rice. He was a well-educated man, having studied in England during his formative years. He read of vast rice farms in subtropical-Asia and realized that the descriptions of the climate and terrain of those areas sounded almost identical to the low-lands surrounding his families home in Charleston. Upon returning to America, James' great-grandfather had convinced his family to grow rice, and within 10 years they had built the largest plantation in South Carollina. They named it Fair Oaks after the hundreds of ancient Live Oak trees which dotted the plantation and bordered the Ashley River beside which the plantation sat.

By the time James was born, the Aultman family was one of the richest families in the United States. But the War changed everything. Much of the plantation, including the family's home, was destroyed. Their workers, who were not actually slaves but freed men and women even before the War, had been taken North to work in the factories which now were the basis of the countries economy. And worst of all, James' mother and father had died of illness during the months after the War ended. His only brother had been killed in battle. James found himself alone and virtually destitute. He had no means of income. He sold the family's mansion in Charleston and tried to use the money to resurrect the plantation. The few crops he was able to produce, however, went unsold. The Northern owned factories refused to buy any goods from any plantations which were still owned by Southerners.

Finally, James had no choice but to sell the plantation. The purchaser was an older man in his mid-60s names Mr. Allen. He was born in the United States but spent much of his life in Europe, first as a student and then as a business man. He was, much to James' surprise, a kind man and, being very wise, he accepted the fact that he knew nothing of managing a plantation. He hired James to oversee the day-to-day operations of Fair Oaks.

Under James management, a new mansion was built, along with outlying cabins which would house the new employees. Within 3 years, the plantation was once again producing goods and becoming a successful plantation again. It turned out that Mr. Allen owned cotton mills and textile mills up North, and Fair Oaks supplied those mills with all of the cotton they needed.

Tragically, Mr. Allen passed away just as Fair Oaks was beginning to return to its glory days. The factories he left to his two sons, but the plantation was left to his second wife. She was nearly 40 years younger than Mr. Allen and was his complete opposite when it came to kindness and compassion. She, like James, had been raised in the lap of luxury. But whereas James grew up on a plantation and had learned the value of hard work and a respect for the laborers who made Fair Oaks successful, Mrs. Allen had never so much as lifted a finger and viewed those beneath her as little more than servants, regardless of their race or heritage. Mrs. Allen was furious when her step-sons received the northern factories. She despised South Carolina and wanted nothing more than to return to her home in New York. Unfortunately, she did not have that option. At least not for now. Her step-sons hated her as much as she hated them, and she was forced to stay at Fair Oaks and live the life she had been dragged into by her now-dead husband until she could figure out a way to take what she believed was hers from her step-sons.

James Aultman

30 years old
6'1" tall
Light brown hair
Blue eyes

James is slender and muscular from the recent years of hard work trying to rebuild Fair Oaks. He is educated and well-spoken but has the slow Southern drawl of a Charleston man. He often has 3 or 4 days worth of beard growth because he is simply too busy keep himself as well-groomed as he had in years passed.

James works alongside the field-hands of Fair Oaks. He is their supervisor, but he treats them with respect, as he does towards the women who work for Mrs. Allen in the mansion.

James' only desire in life is to make sure that Fair Oaks survives. Deep inside, he knows that some day he will reclaim his family's plantation and so, for now, he must do whatever is needed to ensure its success.

From the first time James met Mrs. Allen, he despised her. She treated him like a servant, like part of her property. They both knew that she could never run the plantation without him, but still she never showed him the slightest respect or kindness. Unfortunately, James' has no choice but endure her treatment, lest he lose any chance of ever reclaiming Fair Oaks as his own.

Name: Clarisssa Allen (Claire for short)
Age: 25 years old
Looks: Blonde hair, blue eyes, slim but curvy in all the right areas

Growing up in the life of luxury, it was no surprise when Claire married a rich old man. They'd met at her coming out party and they'd both been immediately attracted to one another. She attracted to his money more than his looks and he was attracted to her looks, period. He'd already had children so that exed out thoughts of bearing the man an heir for his plantation and factories. This boded well for Claire since he only had two sons and he constantly talked about how the two sons would share whatever they gave him. Well, it had seemed that things would go well for Mrs. Allen. That is, until the fateful day that he died:

Flashback

Claire sat in the leather couch on the left side while her two stepsons who detested her for whatever reason, sat to the right. Neither one of them looked at each other, they paid no mind to her. She'd heard the servants whispering and gossiping on how the two men thought she was a gold digger. However, she didn't much care for their opinion. Hell, she didn't even like children!

She was actually rather thankful that she and Richard hadn't had kids. She would've been a terrible mother!

The lawyer cleared his throat, "And now I shall read the will:

To my dearest wife and two wonderful boys,

Gregory and Shawn, I am so proud of how you two have turned out. It seems like only yesterday that you two were following your daddy around the factory curious about how everything worked. I leave my factory to my boys. "

Greg and Shawn grinned widely, looking highly satisfied. That was great and all, but...where did that leave her?! She swallowed hard, slowly shaking her head. She had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. Her mouth was dry.

"Not the farm, not the farm. Please..." she quietly said to herself.

"And to my dearest wife, I love you babydoll and I'll miss you. To you, I leave my most prized possesion aside from you, of course. I leave..."

"No..." she whispered, already knowing the answer to her nightmare. He loved that damned hickville plantation. He even loved the fucking slaves!

"my plantation. May it bring you as much happiness as it did me..."

End flashback

She clenched her fists thinking about that fateful day. Richard didn't even think that she was a city girl, that she had no clue how to run a plantation. When she'd arrived in South Carolina, she'd met one of the workeers there. At least, she assumed he was a worker. He didn't exactly look like royalty with a scruffy beard and scruffy looking brown hair. His name was James. Thankfully, he knew alot more about running the plantation than she did.

However, one thing she disliked about the man, he seemed to like to take control of things. Whether she knew about the plantation or not, she was still the lady of the house. It really upset her to think that some poor white trash would dare take over her husbands role. Thus from the first day she'd arrived in South Carolina, she made sure to make his life a living hell.

James was in one of the far fields, nearly two miles from the house. He and a couple of the workers were building a new fence along the boundary of the property. The day was already hot, even though it was only mid-morning. The late May sun was showing no mercy, and James decided it was time for them to take a break in the shade of some of the nearby Live Oaks. Just as James sat down to relax, another of the plantations hired hands rode up on a horse.
"Mr. James! Mr. James!" the young man shouted as he rode near. "Mrs. Allen wants to see you up at the house, and she said she don't wanna wait."
"Sonofa!!!" James cursed. "Did you tell her I was all the way back here? What does she want?"
James knew that the young messenger wouldn't know the answer to his question. Unfortunately, he would have to stop what he was doing and ride all the way to the house to find out what his boss wanted. He was sure it was something completely unimportant like it almost always was.
Taking the reins of the young man's horse, James told him to join the others in finishing up the fence before stopping for lunch. He rode off towards the house, still muttering under his breath at the inconvenience. A few minutes later, he arrived at the house, dismounting his horse and throwing the reins over the nearby post. Just as he reached the stairs leading to the front porch, Mrs. Allen came bursting out the front door, the normal scowl on her face. James would admit that Mrs. Allen was beautiful, probably the most beautiful woman he'd ever laid eyes on. But her almost constant scowl and self-absorbed attitude almost completely overshadowed her physical beauty.
"You wanted to see me, Mrs. Allen?" he addressed her.

Clarissa paced back and forth, back and forth waiting for James to come back to the house. Honestly, how long did it take for you to get from the field to the house? It wasn't like he had to walk or anything. Didn't have one of those field tractor car thingies. Claire smoothed her pale blue dress with her dainty hands.

"Madeline! I want some tea..."

When the girl hesitated,Claire's eyes narrowed. "Well, what are you waiting for? You're a maid, aren't you? Do your job!" She snapped

"B-but maam...we ain't got no more tea and we ain't allowed to go shoppin without a master."

"Excuses, excuses." Claire grumbled. She was not going to go out into that dusty town and get her dresses dirty! That was just out of the question. Sighing heavily, Claire leaned against the chair, tapping her foot impatiently.

"You wanted to see me, Mrs. Allen?"

"I need you to go to town and get some groceries for the house with the maids. They refuse to do my bidding and you know how I despise going out there in the...dirt." She said the word dirt as if it were some sort of foreign disease and scrunched up her nose.

"Yes ma'am," James responded. "I know how you detest dirt. I'll head into town this evening to get groceries, but I won't be taking any of the maids with me. Have one of the girls who can write put everything on a list and I'll take care of it. I've got some things I need to take care of in town anyway."

James knew that last comment wouldn't sit well with Mrs. Allen. She hated it when he even so much as hinted that he was doing something of his own accord rather than just because she told him to do it.

James turned to walk away, only to have Mrs. Allen practically shout at him to stop.

Claire stood there stunned for a moment. Had he just disregarded her order? She'd told James to go to town for her and pick up groceries with a maid. If she wanted one of the maids to write out a list, she would've done so. She ignored the fact that it was much more time efficient just to write out a list and give it to him.

"JAMES, STOP!" She yelled, just as he was about to walk out the door. Slowly the blonde woman stood up, glaring at him. "You can take care of whatever you need to take care of on your free time. When I give you an order, I expect it to be done the way I say it is to be done; not the way you feel it should be done."

Claire's voice was cold and unfeeling. Her eyes crystal blue eyes sparked with anger and being ordered about. How dare he order her around as if she was the field worker and he owned the plantation?! "Do you understand me?"

James stopped in his tracks, a sly smile on his face. He got a small amount of pleasure out of setting his boss off like that. He made sure to remove the smile before he turned back around.

"Begging your pardon, Mrs. Allen," James responded without the slightest bit of insencerity in his voice. "As I'm sure you're aware, it is low tide right now. Whenever we go to town for supplies we go by river since the roads between here and Charleston can be nearly impassable this time of year. I'll have to wait until this evening when the tide comes back in before I can leave. And then I'll have to stay overnight and wait for the markets to open in the morning. I'll sleep in the boat. I just assumed that you would not want your plantation manager taking an overnight trip and sleeping in a small boat with one of your maids. The Charleston socialites would surely wag their tongues at such improper behavior."

James politely stood and waited for Mrs. Allen's response. He knew that she had no choice but to agree with him, but he also knew that she would try to find some way to punish him for his "arrogance".

Oh damn it all to hell! Could she not win with him for once?! Why did he always have to be right, about....everything! Her fists clenched at her side once more easily showing how angry she was at his response, at the fact that he was completely right. She didn't want any bad gossip going around about her workers, not because she cared about them but more so because it would reflect on her.

People would look at her strangely. She shuddered at the thought.

"Very well." She muttered, "However, you are to be back at the house no later then noon tomorrow." Without wanting to hear another arrogant word from James, she shooed him off with her hand and called one of the maids to begin making a list to give to James.

"I'll do my best to make it back as soon as I can," James muttered as he turned to walk away. He saw Mrs. Allen flinch at his comeback, but she ignored it and stormed back into the house. One of the maids shot James a look of disapproval. He winked at her and grinned, and the maid gave an almost imperceptible smile before hurrying after her boss. It made James feel somewhat better about the entire situation to know that, although they worked for Mrs. Allen, most of the employees at Fair Oaks had much more respect for him.

James set off to prepare for his trip to Charleston. It was about a 12 mile trip by water. When he was a boy, the trip would take nearly a full day because they relied on rowboats or small barges which were pushed along by long poles. Then the steam engine had been developed to the point that a small one could be mounted to a small paddle-wheel boat. Mr. Allen, fortunately, had the financial means to purchase one of those boats. Now the trip took a mere 4 hours.
James headed down to the docks and built a fire in the small coal burner, and then went to his cottage to collect some provisions before slipping down to one of the many small creeks that fed into the Ashley River. He stripped out of his daily work clothes and bathed himself in the cool water. James was well known in Charleston because of his family name. Regardless of his current status, it still would not do for him to show up in the city looking (and smelling) like a field hand.

More importantly, James was going to pay a visit to an old friend while he was in town. He had no intention of sleeping on the boat. And he cared little about what the Charleston socialites whispered about Mrs. Allen's maids. The truth was that he had special plans, and a bath was in order.

Claire sighed as she lounged lazily on the couch. One of the maids had brought her back some lemonade and cookies. She was bored, incredibly and achingly bored. There was absolutely nothing to do in this stupid hickville town. No one seemed interesting enough to talk to.

The women in South Carolina gossiped from the ends of the Earth and the last thing Clarissa wanted and cared about was anybody else's business. She wanted to be back in New York with the street lights and the exciting plays and operas that played there quite often.

Oh how she longed to be in New York. Still, after all this time she couldn't understand why her deceased husband had given her a plantation when she had no interest in such things. Was this her punishment for marrying a man because of his wealth instead of love?

Most likely.

She'd find some way to get back to New York, find some way to get control of the factories again. She just had to think of how...

James set out for Charleston at about 5pm. The sun would be setting well before he made it to Charleston, but the sky was clear and the nearly-full moon was already rising in the east, so he would have no trouble navigating the river. Four hours later, James docked the small boat in Charleston. Just as he had hoped, he had arrived after most of the town's residents had returned home for the evening. He really didn't feel like running into anyone that he knew. They were sure to ask questions as to why he was wandering the streets at such a late hour, and even worse, they would insist that he stay at their homes for the evening. Southern hospitality dictated that a person should never let a friend go without a place to stay. It also dictated that James accept such an offer, and there was only one place he wanted to stay on this night.

He slipped down the cobblestone alleys of Charleston, avoiding the main streets with their oil-burning lamps. A short while later, he arrived at the back gate of a modest two-story home a few blocks away from the mansions of Charleston's Southend Battery area. He quietly made his way onto the back porch and knocked softly at the door. After a few moments, he heard footsteps from inside and saw the glow of a lantern. He knew that only the owner of the house would be home, which is how he wanted it. The owner, like many other Charleston residents, could no longer afford a full-time staff after the war and instead hired only day-time help.

At last, James was greeted by the beautiful face that he had yearned to see for many weeks.

Anna Marie Houston

Anna had been been preparing to get ready to bed when there was a soft knock on the bed. She yawned and stretched before walking downstairs, wondering who could be at the door at this hour. She slowly, hesitantly opened the door only a crack.

It wasn't safe for a woman living on her own to open the door to strangers. However, when she saw the familiar face the through the crack of the door, a wide grin spread on her face and she opened the door fully.

"James!" She said, slightly shocked to see him at her door. It had been a few weeks since they'd seen each other again. Anna Marie was the widow of one of James' friends. They'd become close when her husband had died after the war and even closer as time went by. It was a secret relationship they'd had but a relationship none the less. "What a pleasant surprise! Oh do come in out the cold. I wish I'd known you were coming, I would've been more prepared."

The sight of Anna instantly brought a huge smile to James' face. He followed her into the house and to the parlor. She offered to find something for him to eat, but food was the last thing on his mind.

After the war, James and Anna both found their world's turned upside down. James' parents and brother had both died, as had Anna's husband. Her parents had died long before, so she, like James, found herself completely alone. Fortunately for her, she had inherited quite a large fortune from her parents. They had lived in the north, so her fortune did not revolve around the southern economy. She had come to Charleston with her husband and fallen in love with it. She was able to keep their home after his death, though in order to make her inheritance last, she had to make some sacrifices like releasing the house staff.

James and Anna had found comfort with eachother after the war ended, first as friends, and then as lovers. She had asked him to move to Charleston when he was forced to sell the plantation, but he could not bring himself to leave Fair Oaks.
James also knew that being with Anna would be a constant reminder to both of them of the past. He had stayed at Fair Oaks, and their relationship had remained as it now was. On occasions when James found himself in the city, he always found himself at Anna's door. He was a man, and she was a woman--- it was as simple as that.

Though she had offered James something to eat or drink, Anna knew the real reason he was there. It had nothing to do with the sort of eating she had initially offered. However, she wasn't one to object to the sort of activities James had in mind.

However, despite the sort of relationship they'd had for quite sometime, it was highly unladylike for her to be so bold as to make the first move. That was after all, the duty of man...if he did indeed want any sort of sexual relationship.

"Are you quite certain you don't want anything to eat?" She asked as she idly ran her fingers through her dark hair, "Not even some scotch? I believe I have some left over from your last visit."

"Well," James replied. "I suppose it would be rude for me to turn down an offer. A scotch would be nice." He watched Anna as she retrieved the bottle from a cupboard and fetched a glass. "But only if you're having one with me," he continued.

Anna looked back at him as if to pretend that a lady such as herself would never drink hard liquor. But then, as though she suddenly remembered the situation, she turned and grabbed another glass. She poured each of them a generous amount, and they made small talk as they sipped the Scotch. James asked Anna if she needed anything done around the house, and she asked him if things had improved between him and Mrs. Allen.

Soon their glasses were empty, and James refilled them. This time, however, he downed the Scotch in one swallow. Following his lead, Anna did the same. Anna took the glasses and sat them on the cupboard, and when she turned around James pulled her into his arms and kissed her hard and deep on her lips.

It seemed like it had been forever since Anna had felt the kiss of James' lips. It had only been a mere few weeks but it felt like it had been a millenia. She returned his kiss, their lips meshing into one anothers. Her tongue lightly brushed over his bottom lip as though seeking permission to enter. When his lips parted, she could taste the scotch on his tongue.

Her hands brushed down his shirt they reached the buttons. Her body was pressed against his. She ached to feel his touch once again. It had been too long that they had been apart.

She began slowly unbuttoning his shirt, allowing her fingers to lightly graze against his skin when the buttons were fully undone.

The touch of Anna's fingertips against his chest sent lightning bolts through James' body. His hands were all over her. He needed to touch her, to feel her bare skin. Her lips and tongue tasted delicious, warm and soft and tangy from the scotch. His fingers worked their way up the back of her neck into her hair, pulling her lips harder against his. His other hand caressed her back, working lower and lower until he reached her ass. He squeezed and pulled her against him, pressing his hips forward so she could feel his already growing bulge.
Anna had already changed into her night clothes before James arrived, so only a thin layer of cotton separated his hand from the warm flesh of her firm ass. She worked faster at the buttons of his shirt until at last she opened the shirt and let it fall to the floor. James's lips found Anna's neck, biting and sucking at the soft skin as his hand slipped from the back of her neck to her breasts. He filled his hand with her breast and felt her hard nipple against his palm, causing both of them to moan softly.

The kiss had gone from soft and sweet, to lustful, hard, and deep. She sighed into the kiss, not truly realizing how much she had missed James' touches and kisses until now. She whimpered as he pulled her against him. She could feel his growing bulge pressed against her core. She had already pushed his shirt down so now her hands had full contact to his upper body.

Her head fell back as she moaned while feeling his lips graze over her neck then suckled on it. Anna's back arched into him as he began cupping her full breasts, pushing her breasts further into his hand until he released and began suckling on those as well.

Not wanting to seem selfish during their little rendezvous, Anna's hands trailed down his taut abs until they reached the hem of his pants. She began to unzip them and then finally pushed them down. Her hand sliding into his boxers and lightly, teasingly stroking his rigid shaft.

James groaned against Anna's breast when her hand found his swollen cock. He slipped his own hand down between her legs, feeling the heat from her pussy radiating through the thin cotton as he pressed his fingers against her slit. He circled his fingers against her clit, pressing harder than he probably should have, but Anna pressed against his hand even harder. She squeezed his shaft harder and harder the more he rubbed her clit.

James moved his mouth from Anna's breasts and back up to her lips, thrusting his tongue into her mouth and circling it around hers, matching the rhythm of his fingers on her clit. His mouth on her nipples had left the white cotton night dress soaking wet and her hard, pink nipples showed through the fabric. James untied the loose bow that held the front of the gown closed, allowing it to fall open enough to expose her beautiful tits to his view. He dipped his head back down to suck her nipple into his mouth. At the same time, he slipped his hand further between her legs and moaned as he felt her dampness through the thin gown.

Anna whimpered at the feel of his hands pressing against her clit through her white cotton night gown. She gripped tightly around his shaft as he pressed hard against her clit. It hurt but at the same time felt sooo incredibly good that she moved her hips forward towards his hand a bit more, squealing with delight.

At that moment, James removed his mouth from her silky night gown and thrust his tongue into her mouth again. She moaned into the kiss as her tongue caressed every inch of his mouth, her tongue brushing over the roof of his mouth. James had untied her night gown and she shivered as the cool air hit her tits.

They were already hard from being sucked on through the night gown but if possible, her nipples had become even harder. "Oh yes!" she moaned as he began sucking on her nipples. Her hands ran through his hair, pushing his mouth even further onto her breasts. Her legs shook slightly as he fingered her through the thin night gown.

James slowly pushed Anna's gown off of her shoulders, letting it slide down her body. He followed the gown with his mouth, kissing his way down her smooth stomach. Anna was leaning against the cupboard, preventing the the gown from falling to the floor. James could see her soft, dark curls peeking from beneath the thin white fabric. He kissed and licked her skin, ever so closer to his goal. His hands caressed her legs, roaming over her calves and then higher, massaging and kneading her firm, toned thighs. His hands disappeared beneath her gown, moving higher and higher.

Anna watched as the cotton gown fell but not in a puddle due to leaning against the cupboard. Soft sighs and whimpers slipped passed her lips as James trailed kisses down her body, following the path of the gown. She shivered in pleasure as his tongue trailed down the path he was making too.

She had to release his cock as he trailed kisses. Instead, her nails scratched against the wooden cupboard as his hands trailed up further passed her thighs.

"Please.." Anna begged.

The plea from Anna was more than James could stand. He roughly pushed the cotton gown up and buried his face between her legs. Her pussy was practically dripping wet, and he lapped at her, tasting her fluid on his tongue. Over and over he ran his tongue up and down her slit until finally he closed his lips over her clit and sucked it into his mouth. He flicked his tongue hard and fast on her sensitive button and slid two fingers into her tight tunnel. He instantly began to stroke his fingers inside her, curling them towards her stomach, searching for the spot that he knew would drive her crazy. The rhythm of his fingers inside her matched the rhythm of his tongue against her clit.

Within moments, James had pulled up her night gown and buried his face into her pussy. She squealed with excitement as he suckled on her clit. Her body was hot with desire, with need. Her entire body hummed with it. "Ohgodohgod, soo good James!" She whimpered, spreading her legs wide Her hips jerked as he pushed his fingers in and curled them in her pussy.

"Yesss..." she cried out. Anna let out a shaky breath, desperately wanting to touch herself but knowing how unladylike it was to do such things. Those were the sort of things reserved for common whores.
