Warning: Just another hockey related rant following... Move on if you must

Lets all face facts.. With Billy G in the fold, Boucher making up one of the four 6-4 towers on the blue line and Amonte ready to join the likes of Modano, Lehtinen, Arnott and Turgeon... The Dallas Stars are going to kick everyone's ass and make 1998/99 look like a weak year.

By mid-season though I pretty sure the entire league will figure out what Stars fans have known for the last two years... Turco is damn good.

Those are some of the comments made here towards two people who thought I was very much out of line and being an overall idiot in making the predictions I did back in July.

Well boys, 1/4 of the way through.. Dallas is in first place overall, still hasn't lost in regulation at home after 14 games and Marty Turco is tops in Goals Against Average, save percentage, shutouts and uhh... oh yeah.. wins.

Yes it is early.. Yes it's not the playoffs yet.. But damn if the first 25 games are any kind of indication, then maybe just maybe - supposed biased opinion or not - I know just what the fuck I am talking about eh?

I own two hockey sweaters.

A wool 1960's replica Habs home sweater I wear on lakes for shinny.

A 98-99 Stars away jersey for full gear arena use.

The Stars are the only team I've ever cheered for other than the Habs...they play exiting hockey and the home crowd digs the game large.

Nice call.

Little known fact: Texas has the most professional hockey teams of any state, territory or province in the world. I can't stand it when I hear "Texans don't know a thing about hockey" (and being where I live, I hear it often) because I have many friends that I talk to over the net that know facts about the game I don't even know.

I've been a Stars fan since the days in Minnesota. As others know I have other teams I like, but not nearly to the level that I follow the Stars.

btw.. Lance.. I hope that's not the 60's replica jersey I am thinking it is. You actually wear that playing?! Like the old guy in the Tim Horton's as says: That's crazy!!

Hockey quotes, a fav:

Re: LIONTAMR

cujo - How many rings does he have? Hell, how many times has he been to the finals?

chelios - He's still playing without a walker? Hater can take care of him

stevie Y - Where is he?? Back at home old and hurt.

hull - Loud mouth hasbeen. Geurin can easily match him goal for goal

Robitialle - Another senior! Arnott, Turgon, Young.. take your pick.

Lindstrom - So you have two good d-men. Dallas has at least 5. Zubov right now is the 3rd line d-man.

federov - Lehtinen. Maybe Sergie is better than Jere offensevly, but he can't compare to him defensivly.

Detroit is so yesterday's news along with Colorado :p

Now, here IS a random hockey quote:

Son (age 7) was watching a game with me.

The usual fight broke out and he was very surprised and said, "Mom? You mean I have to go in Time Out if I fight at hockey too?"

*smirks*

Just had to add something cute :D

Dallas also has the advantage of the slowest ice in the game come playoff time. Nothing puts the brakes on a good hockey club used to fast ice any better. Seems like a club that has spent as much on talent as the Stars could afford some working equipment for the rink. Oh well.

A quote by Trevanian from the novel "Shibumi"

Melpomene was a substantial girl, thick of bosom, ankle, and forearm, rosy of cheek, and clear of eye. She seemed somehow incomplete without her hockey stick.

One of my favs:

"Without violence, there would be no such thing as hockey"

-Clarence Campbell, President of the NHL in March 1975

"When I spit on the ice, I come home, and my son Ty spits on the kitchen floor."

-Wayne Gretzky, The Great One

Actually they did.. They actually got a new pair of brand new state of the art zambonies that super heat the water with lasers then instead of the tradional flooding, they spray the water on with a fine mist that is supposed to help the ice freeze quicker and in turn stay harder through the period.

If I can find the article that I read about it a few weeks ago, I'll post it.

But from all early reports, the Dallas ice is some of the best amoung the US teams now.

Stupidest things the Habs have done in the last 15 yrs were to trade Chelios and Roy!

I played on a high school summer league and the coaching was done by college students wanting some free ice time and a couple of bucks for the trouble. The coach (who shall remain nameless) was getting the team fired up before a game and wrote the word "necrophilia" on the chalkboard.

"First we are going to kill them. Then we are going to fuck them."

Chelios was never happy in Mtl.

I never understood the Roy trade....I think Savard did one too many Spin-A-Ramas while playing.

I miss the Bar-B-Barn.

The Roy trade had a lot to do with the French press. We have sucked since Roy left and it's all Savard's fault.. They had a few dustups together but trading Roy shouldn't have been the result.

I live around the corner from the Bar B Barn lol I will think of you (with the old eyecandy AV of course) next time I walk by it. :p
