A Note from David Rambo to a Fan
I, like many other fans, have been looking for something to do to support the writers during their strike. For the first few days, I participated in sending lunch and snacks to the writers (along with a ton of other CSI Fans). The writers were incredibly appreciative of the support and lunch provided by the fans.
The writers are however being fed by actors and agents and production offices and the like. Mr. Rambo asked that I share the following (as I am sure that it applies to not only CSI writers/fans). Here is the e-mail in part:
"Now, in all seriousness, I have to tell you that food and water are turning out to be in bountiful supply at our picketing spot. The generosity of fans, agents, production offices, and others is overwhelming. We talked about this phenomenon on the line today, and wanted to let you know that we're more than well cared-for. In fact, we're beginning to feel a little guilty that you and others have been so generous. What we'd really like most, if you do want to continue to show support for our strike, would be for the fans to make additional donations to CASA in honor of the striking writers. That way, our strike is helping others in far less fortunate circumstances in addition to protecting our writers' rights. Would you mind sharing this request with any fansites you think would like to know?
By the way, there is an excellent short video that tells the story of the really simple issue at stake on YouTube. The address is:

The CSI fans are the greatest. All of us on the show -- writers, producers, cast and crew -- are grateful for your support at this challenging time.
Thank you very much,
David Rambo"
Mr. Rambo also shared that many of the cast of CSI joined them on the picket line; including Jorja Fox, William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, David Berman and Robert David Hall.
Edited to add:
For those that may not know, CASA is Court Appointed Social Advocates for children. "The mission of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its state and local members, is to support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes."
Their website is http://www.nationalcasa.org/index.asp.
David Rambo also wrote the following to another fan (not me) that expressed a concern about how others in the industry are going to be impacted. He provided info about The Actors Fund.
"Thank you so much for your support. It's very much appreciated.
The WGA currently has a $12 million strike fund. However, the people who will need assistance as this drags on longer are those in film and TV who don't have access to the strike fund: the office assistants, crew members and actors. They will really need the help to be able to continue in support of our strike, and there's no fund for them. There is, however, a wonderful 125-year old nonprofit organization that provides direct, confidential assistance to all entertainment professionals in need, such as those I just mentioned. It's called the Actors Fund, and you can find out more or make a donation through their website: http://www.actorsfund.org/
If you do donate, let the Actors Fund know that your contribution is in support of those affected by the writers strike. They'll appreciate it, and so will I."
